3 ‘Neighbours’ characters in desperate need of a storyline

A lot has been going on since ‘Neighbours’ returned to our screens and there’s been an influx of new faces alongside established characters.

While we’re all hoping that Chelsea Murphy (Viva Bianca) will depart the show soon, and that a few of the current storylines will end sooner rather than later, we can’t help but think there are some seriously under-used characters. We get it – not every character can have a big storyline at the same time but some characters really do deserve more to do than just hanging around in the background.

We’ve highlighted three characters that we believe are desperately in need of a storyline asap. Keep reading to find out who we’ve picked…

1. Holly Hoyland

Holly (Lucinda Armstrong-Hall) only seems to have storylines that revolve around men. First there was Haz (Shiv Palekar) then she made a beeline for Felix (James Beaufort), and let’s not forget the whole Eden (Costa D’Angelo) mess. Holly is a feisty character with a lot more to give so surely it’s time that she got a really meaty storyline? She’s worth more than standing on the sidelines while Mack (Georgie Stone) and Haz fight to stay together, and giving Melanie (Lucinda Cowden) advice on her love life.

2. Wendy Rodwell

Wendy Rodwell (Candice Leask) has had pretty much nothing to do since ‘Neighbours’ returned. Aside from marriage troubles with Andrew (Lloyd Will), and clashing with the Varga-Murphys, she’s not really had her own storyline. Wendy briefly reconsidered her career after reacting poorly to Sadie (Emerald Chan) wanting to be a make-up artist, but that storyline appears to have vanished. A character with so much potential, Wendy deserves her time in the spotlight.

3. Dex Varga-Murphy

Can anyone tell us a single thing about Dex (Marley Williams) other than who his family is? All of the screen-time has been going to JJ (Riley Bryant) and Dex has been pretty much ignored since arriving on the show. We thought he might have a romance with Nell (Ayisha Salem-Towner) but that’s not happened. The show needs to flesh Dex out a bit and let viewers learn more about the character. At the moment he’s a total unknown and definitely overshadowed by the other members of his family.

‘Neighbours’ airs on Amazon Freevee Monday to Thursday every week.
