A genre blurring message of hope: Marcus King’s ‘Mood Swings’ album

Marcus King, one of music’s most esteemed modern songwriters, has unveiled the release date for his highly anticipated album, ‘Mood Swings,’ set to debut on April 5th via American / Republic Records / Snakefarm (UK).

‘Mood Swings’ represents King’s magnum opus, a diverse symphony that seamlessly blends timeless melodies with contemporary flair. Drawing inspiration from personal struggles, the album serves as a beacon of hope for listeners navigating similar challenges.

Accompanying the album announcement is the release of the title track, ‘Mood Swings,’ offering a glimpse into the captivating soundscapes awaiting listeners. With soulful melodies, pulsing electro-drums, and emotive vocals, the song sets the tone for King’s innovative sonic direction on the new record.

Reflecting on the creation of ‘Mood Swings,’ King shared, “The title track emerged from a moment of creative synergy during a session with Jason Lader. It captures the swinging nature of the material, reflecting my personal journey through moments of turmoil and introspection.”

Renowned producer Rick Rubin, known for his work with iconic artists across genres, including Adele and Johnny Cash, played a pivotal role in shaping the album’s sonic landscape. Impressed by King’s exceptional talent, Rubin facilitated a transformative collaboration that pushed King to new artistic heights.

‘Mood Swings’ showcases a departure from King’s previous work, blending elements of modern pop, R&B, classic rock, and soulful instrumentation. Despite its candid exploration of mental health and addiction, the album resonates with a message of hope and resilience.

As King embarks on a journey of self-discovery and renewal, ‘Mood Swings’ stands as a testament to his artistic evolution and unwavering authenticity. “This album is a reflection of my personal journey,” King remarked. “I hope it serves as a source of solace and inspiration for anyone facing similar struggles. Mood Swings’ is a play on the swinging nature of the material, whilst also referencing my up and down shifts in mood while I was either abusing the wrong substances, in between mood-stabilising meds and anti-psychotics, self-medication on top of that, along with a foot locker FULL of repressed childhood trauma all being taken out on my relationship at the time.”

In support of the album release, King will embark on a tour across the UK and Europe, with dates including a performance at London’s Eventim Apollo on November 5th. Tickets and additional information are available on Marcus King’s official website.
