Bruce Springsteen becomes the first international artist inducted as Fellow of The Ivors Academy

The Ivors Academy proudly announces Bruce Springsteen as its latest inductee into the esteemed Fellowship, the highest honor bestowed by the organization. This momentous occasion marks Springsteen as the first-ever international songwriter to receive this distinction in the Academy’s illustrious 80-year history.

Renowned as one of the most influential and significant songwriters of all time, Bruce Springsteen’s music has left an indelible mark on the lives of millions worldwide. Often hailed as ‘the embodiment of rock & roll,’ his illustrious career spans an impressive fifty years, commencing with his groundbreaking debut album “Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ” in 1973, and culminating with his twenty-first studio album “Only the Strong Survive” released in 2022.

With over 140 million records sold globally, Springsteen’s accolades are as vast as they are prestigious, including 20 GRAMMY Awards, an Oscar, and a Tony Award. His contributions have been immortalized with inductions into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Additionally, he has been honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States.

Expressing his gratitude, Bruce Springsteen commented, “I’m proud to be the first international songwriter to be recognized by The Ivors Academy. In addition to acknowledging my songwriting, this award is a tribute to the fans and friends who have supported me throughout my fifty-year journey. The warmth and hospitality of this entire country have made me feel welcomed every step of the way, for which I will always be deeply appreciative.”

Springsteen’s induction into the Fellowship of The Ivors Academy celebrates his exceptional contributions to the art of songwriting and recognizes his profound impact on the cultural landscape of the United Kingdom. He joins the esteemed ranks of the Academy’s Fellows, including luminaries such as Sir Paul McCartney, Kate Bush CBE, Joan Armatrading CBE, and Sting, who received the award in 2023.

Tom Gray, Chair of The Ivors Academy, remarked, “There is no one more deserving than Bruce Springsteen to be the inaugural international songwriter inducted into our Fellowship. Songwriters are powerful storytellers who capture the essence of our lives, loves, and struggles. Bruce has always been a master storyteller. His induction into the Fellowship is a testament to the admiration he commands from his peers.”

The Ivor Novello Awards, renowned as a pinnacle of creative musical achievement since their inception in 1956, are judged by award-winning songwriters and composers from The Ivors Academy. Winners join a prestigious roster of musical greats, including Adele, Stormzy, RAYE, Little Simz, Cathy Dennis, Annie Lennox, Amy Winehouse, Dave, and John Lennon.
