Cyndi Lauper: 5 songs she must perform in London this summer

Cyndi Lauper has announced that she’ll be performing a show at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall on 26th June 2024, and honestly we can’t wait to see her!

With a career that started in the 70s and is still going strong now, she has tons of hits to her name. As it’s been a while since we saw Lauper perform in the UK, we’re already thinking about what the setlist might feature.

Ahead of the show this summer, we’ve picked 5 songs from Lauper’s incredible catalogue that she simply has to sing. We’ve not gone for the obvious songs like ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’, we’re going deep into her records to uncover those hidden gems…

1. Into the Nightlife

One of pop music’s biggest crimes is ignoring Lauper’s 2008 masterpiece ‘Bring Ya To The Brink’. Reinventing herself as a dance floor Queen, the album spawned plenty of should-have-been-hits but none stood out more than the incredible ‘Into the Nightlife’. The song is an absolute banger and it should be respected like one.

2. The World is Stone

Originally written by Michel BergerĀ andĀ Luc PlamondonĀ for the 1978 Canadian-French musicalĀ ‘Starmania’, ‘The World is Stone’ was translated into English by Tim Rice. Lauper put her powerhouse vocals onto the track and made it the iconic pop ballad it is today. The song is one of her atmospheric and it still brings us out in goosebumps.

3. Who Let in the Rain

The lead single from 1993’s ‘Hat Full of Stars’, ‘Who Let in the Rain’ is a stirring ballad that allows Lauper’s distinctive voice to soar. How the song didn’t go on to be a huge hit is beyond us quite frankly but it’s one of the finest songs she’s ever recorded. The sentiment is gorgeous and Lauper sounds stunning.

4. That’s What I Think

The second single from 1993’s ‘Hat Full Of Stars’, the upbeat ‘That’s What I Think’ was released alongside a ton of dance remixes, which helped turn it into a hit. The husky vocal, the funky pop production and the infectious chorus are all things we need to witness live when she takes to the stage in London.

5. She Bop

Considered controversial at the time, ‘She Bop’ was one of the singles from Lauper’s iconic debut album ‘She’s So Unusual’. The New Wave pop classic is a song about masturbation but honestly, you can listen to it without really realising what she’s singing. It was a highlight on the album and it’s one of the singer’s most under-rated hits.

Cyndi Lauper will perform at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 26th June 2024. Tickets are on sale from 28th March from the Royal Albert Hall Box Office.
