Queen to release ‘Cool Cat’ vinyl for Record Store Day

Queen is releasing ‘Cool Cat’ on limited edition 7″ pink vinyl for Record Store Day on 20th April 2024, it has been announced.

Over 40 years since the release of their 1982 album ‘Hot Space’, ‘Cool Cat’ was featured on the classic album. It will now be released as a single for the very first time and feature a never-before-heard instrumental version as the B-side.

‘Cool Cat’ was penned and performed solely by Freddie Mercury and John Deacon. Public demand for the track, one of just four theĀ bandā€™sĀ ‘Hot Space’Ā tracksĀ never performed live by the band, has surged following its use in an extremely popular Amazon Prime promotional spot directed by actress and filmmaker Olivia Wilde.

The 30-second short called “‘Tache”, soundtracked by ‘Cool Cat’, features a young girl,Ā actress Morgan Quin,Ā in her bedroom worried about her personal appearance. Spurred on by Freddieā€™s individuality, the girl is suddenly inspired to find the means not care what others think but to embrace her uniqueness, just like the late star himself.Ā

‘Cool Cat’ was first released in 1982 as the B-side to ‘Las Palabras De Amor’.Ā  Both tracks appear onĀ Queenā€™s Gold-certifiedĀ ‘Hot Space’Ā album. The song originally featured a guest backing vocal by David Bowie, which was scratched prior to the albumā€™s release.Ā
