Usher: 10 songs to prepare you for his Super Bowl performance

Usher will take to the stage tonight to perform the half-time show at the Super Bowl 2024.

The iconic R&B star has been dropping hits since the 90s and he’s one of the most successful artists of all-time. To tie-in with his Super Bowl performance, Usher has just released new album ‘Coming Home’, which is receiving his best reviews in years.

As we wait for what is sure to be a spectacular show later today, we’ve picked out 10 hits from Usher’s extensive catalogue to get you hyped. Enjoy our picks below…

1. You Make Me Wanna…

It’s the song that made the world fall in love with him. ‘You Make Me Wanna…’ was a huge breakthrough hit in 1997 and it gave the singer his first number one smash in the UK. Those slick R&B beats ushered (see what we did there?) in a new era for R&B music and set the foundations for a long and successful career.

2. U Remind Me

‘U Remind Me’ really kickstarted the phase of Usher’s career where he went from mildly successful to global phenomenon. His second number 1 in the US, and a rebound after the disappointing US performance of ‘Pop Ya Collar’, the slick R&B ballad was a monster smash. It set the tone nicely for 2001 album ‘8701’.

3. Yeah! feat. Lil Jon & Ludacris

The lead single from 2004’s mighty ‘Confessions’, ‘Yeah!’ saw the star enlisting Lil Jon and Ludacris to craft a club banger that has endured. 20 years on and the song is still a total bop, and one of the finest singles from the performer to date.

4. Confessions, Pt. II

‘Confessions’ is Usher’s most successful album to date and there’s a good reason for that. Not only did it have the monster hit ‘Yeah!’ on it, it also had the R&B classic ‘Confessions, Pt. II’. Lyrically it’s the singer-songwriter at his most honest and melodically, it’s a slice of pure magic.

5. Love In This Club feat. Young Jeezy

‘Love In This Club’ was the standout from 2008’s ‘Here I Stand’, an album that didn’t live up to the material that came before it. At this point expectations were so high and while it’s not a terrible album, it’s not up there with his best. A remix of ‘Love In This Club’ saw BeyoncĆ© and Lil Wayne get in on the action but we prefer the original.

6. OMG feat. will.i.am

2010’s ‘Raymond V Raymond’ saw the performer mixing dance music into his signature R&B style to varying degrees of success. ‘OMG’ featuring will.i.am is one of the best examples of the star getting the blend spot on.

7. DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love feat. Pitbull

Featured on the deluxe edition of ‘Raymond V Raymond, ‘DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love’ saw Usher move completely into pop music. With Pitbull on hand to add his unique rap style to the song, ‘DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love’ proved to be another big hit.

8. Climax

A return to form, the shimmering ‘Climax’ was the lead single from 2012’s ‘Looking 4 Myself’. Hitting the kind of notes that ONLY he is capable of hitting, ‘Climax’ is one of the sexiest R&B slow jams of all-time and if it’s not part of the Super Bowl set today, we’ll be very unhappy.

9. Good Good feat. Summer Walker and 21 Savage

Yes, we know. We picked nothing from 2016’s ‘Hard II Love’ and honestly that’s because nothing on that record is as good as anything else in this list. New album ‘Coming Home’ is the return to form we’ve been waiting for and ‘Good Good’ featuring Summer Walker and 21 Savage is one of the highlights. It’s breezy, feel-good and memorable.

10. Ruin feat. Pheelz

The highlight of ‘Coming Home’ ‘Ruin’ is an R&B/Afrobeats fusion featuring Pheelz. We can’t get enough of it and it deserves to be a huge global smash. The beat is hypnotic, the vocals are stellar and we’ve had it on repeat since it came out.

Usher will perform at the Super Bowl 2024 half-time show today (Sunday 11th February).
