Garth’s invisible song? Aldean’s invisible album? Post Malone incoming. Country Music Monday Musings.

Welcome to the third in a new feature for Entertainment Focus. Each Monday we are going to throw out a few random thoughts into the ether about this wonderful genre of Country music and the artists, musicians, people and places that go together to create it. You might agree with some of our thoughts, you might disagree with others.

At a time in the world when we should all be pulling together it is not intended to be any great divisive piece of incendiary journalism. Instead, take it in the spirit it is intended, which is a little insight into some of the things we think about regarding Country music, rightly or wrongly. Some of the thoughts might be ‘hot takes’ others might be a bit more mundane and some might just be surreal and wildly off the mark, who knows!!!

  • Garth Brooks released a new song, ‘Rodeo Man’ with Ronnie Dunn today but you won’t find it on Spotify, Youtube, Amazon or Apple so has he actually released anything at all? You know what they say about the noise of trees that fall undetected in the woods??!!
  • Jason Aldean released a new album last Friday. Did anyone notice?
  • Anyone need a plumber? Maybe call Jelly Roll. Uber? Jelly Roll. Little Jenny need a cake for her upcoming 6th birthday? Jelly Roll’s your guy. Has he had the most collaborations in Country music this year? Let’s give the poor guy a holiday for a bit shall we?
  • Carrie Underwood continues her careful courting of other genres by appearing at he Rock n Roll Hame of Fame induction for George Michael and singing ‘One More Try’ in his honour.
  • Good to see Tim McGraw finally putting his head above the parapet and defending his liberal leanings. In a recent TIME interview, McGraw opens up about his own political leanings as a moderate Democrat who supports common-sense gun laws and the right to have an abortion. But he also thinks finding common ground is important, and increasingly difficult, for both sides. It’ll be interesting as the United States enters an election year next year to see which Country artists speak out on both sides of the political divide and which choose to stay quiet.
  • Post Malone’s inevitable entrance into the Country market gets a step closer this week as he performs with Morgan Wallen at the CMA awards. There’s news of him going into the recording studio with Wallen too. Makes sense given his Texan upbringing and musical proclivities. Get ready for him to be 2024’s Jelly Roll.
