Welcome to the first in a new feature for Entertainment Focus. Each Monday we are going to throw out a few random thoughts into the ether about this wonderful genre of Country music and the artists, musicians, people and places that go together to create it. You might agree with some of our thoughts, you might disagree with others.
At a time in the world when we should all be pulling together it is not intended to be any great divisive piece of incendiary journalism. Instead, take it in the spirit it is intended, which is a little insight into some of the things we think about regarding Country music, rightly or wrongly. Some of the thoughts might be ‘hot takes’ others might be a bit more mundane and some might just be surreal and wildly off the mark, who knows!!!
- We’re not that fussed about a Dolly Parton Rock album, to be honest, but if Chris Stapleton were to do one, we’d start queuing for the vinyl right now!
- We can’t work out whether Carly Pearce’s new song ‘Head Over Heels’ is an empowered story of a girl wronged or slut-shaming piece which should be focusing on the guy’s behaviour instead? Either way, it’s a banger!
- 49 Winchester have the world at their feet right now but then we thought that about LanCo a few years ago too.
- Does anyone know someone in the UK government that could get Jelly Roll off whatever ‘no fly’ list he’s on where his previous convictions stop him from crossing the Atlantic?
- What’s happened to Lainey Wilson and Luke Combs in the last decade should be enough for any musician currently trying to make it in Nashville to keep going for that bit longer.
- Who’d have thought, this time last year, that the two hottest hunks in Country music would be Chris Young & Ernest? Fair play fellas, what a fitness journey they’ve both been on.
- Has Sam Hunt gone Country-emo? It’s been a while since he released a vaguely uptempo song.
