Bull Funk Zoo has released new single “It Don’t Stop”, along with the accompanying music video, which you can watch at the top of this article.
“It Don’t Stop” is the follow-up to previous 2023 release “Livin’ It Up” and it features vocals and lyrics by Red. The song is described as a ‘genre-defying fusion of electro swing, power pop and hip-hop grooves with hints of jazz and world music’.
Assaad Lakkis, the man behind the Bull Funk Zoo moniker, says of the track; “It doesn’t fit one particular genre. I get so confused – there are so many sub-genres. This track is based on funk and hip-hop grooves, a bit of jazz, a bit of world music. It’s got that electro swing, power pop, funky vibe. I’m influenced by so many different kinds of music and I try to get that energy and that feel in to every song that I write.” says Lakkis.
“When Red wrote the lyrics, I asked her what they were about and she said: This is about YOU because you never stop trying to figure out things in music and music production. She said: It’s about YOU because you don’t stop.”
Lakkis confesses that Red’s assertion is accurate because he enjoys ‘tinkering’ in the studio; “I experiment a lot with sounds in my studio. On this track, I got an old tape machine, recorded my voice through the tape machine, then using some distortion pedals, I took that and I sampled it into my keyboard so I could actually play it in different keys.”
The music video is directed, produced and edited by Frezidante and features his pet cat, Zappa. “Zappa kept coming into the studio and causing mischief and then just became a focal point of the session. And who doesn’t like a cat video?” he laughs.
