Adam Lambert is releasing his new album ‘High Drama’ on 24th February 2023 via Warner Music and it’s his first collection of covers.

The powerhouse vocalist is taking on classic tracks from the likes of Duran Duran and Bonnie Tyler, putting his own twist on them. Of course, Lambert’s fans will know the singer is no stranger to covers having performed many over his career so far.

In celebration of ‘High Drama’ arriving next month, I’ve put together my Top 5 covers that Lambert has done. Please note, I’ve not included any Queen songs. Keep reading to find out what’s made the cut…

‘Barracuda’ with Lea Michele

During season 5 of the hit musical comedy drama ‘Glee’, Lambert joined the cast in a recurring role. He managed to wrap his vocals around many a familiar song but it was ‘Barracuda’, a song made famous by Heart, with cast mate Lea Michele that scored him a home run. The song is perfect for his gritty vocals and his voice worked well with Michele’s.

‘Mad About The Boy’

The first song unveiled from ‘High Drama’, ‘Mad About The Boy’ is a cover of the NoĆ«l Coward favourite. While the studio version is divine, it’s the performance Lambert did on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ that really stands out. Always at his best in a live arena, Lambert gave the song a real atmosphere and wowed audiences all over the world.

3
‘Mad World’

It was this performance of the Tears for Fears classic during his time on ‘American Idol’, that transformed Lambert from a talented singer to someone with a legion of fans and the world at his feet. The song has been covered plenty of times but none are as affecting as Lambert’s take on the ethereal and spine-tingling track.

2
‘Nessun Dorma’

If you didn’t already know that Lambert had an incredible voice, you certainly found out by watching his remarkable cover of ‘Nessun Dorma’, which was performed on the latest Queen + Adam Lambert tour. Is there anything the man can’t sing? It doesn’t seem like it. Listen to that range, control and vibrato!!

1
‘Believe’

Lambert performed this song in honour of Cher who was being celebrated at the 41st Annual Kennedy Center Honors in 2018. Transforming the 90s dance bop into a stripped-back piano track, Lambert even had Cher wiping away tears as she watched adoringly from the audience. This is how you do a cover version!
