‘Scream VI’: new trailer promises a very different Ghostface

The official trailer for ‘Scream VI’ is here and it looks like Ghostface is going to be nastier than ever before.

Following the teaser trailer last year, fans can get an extended look at what they can expect from the upcoming instalment. Following on from 2022’s box office smash ‘Scream’, ‘Scream VI’ sees the return of sisters Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega) as they head to New York with twins Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) to escape the traumatic events of Woodsboro.

This new trailer gives us our first look at Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), whose fate was left in the balance in ‘Scream 4’ but confirmed via an Easter egg in the last film.

Legacy character Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) gets plenty of screen time in the trailer as she takes Sam and the group to a Ghostface shrine. We also see Gale receiving a phonecall from Ghostface before being attacked in what looks like her home.

There are several things worth noting in the trailer. Firstly there appears to be two different Ghostfaces, or at least two different masks. Secondly Ghostface kills with a shotgun in one scene, in addition to his/her usual knife. Thirdly there’s only a brief glimpse at new cast members Samara Weaving and Tony Revolori – could they be the opening kills?

‘Scream VI’ is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett, and written by James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick based on characters created by Kevin Williamson.

As has been widely reported, Neve Campbell will not be returning as Sidney Prescott. The actor decided not to return to the role when she felt the offer on the table wasn’t fair when taking into consideration how much she’s given to the franchise over the years.
