Will there be a second season of Netflix’s ‘The Recruit’?

Perhaps the question should be: why wouldn’t Netflix want to release a second season of the smart, action-fuelled, comedy-thriller TV show ‘The Recruit’?

In the four weeks since the show’s release, it has usurped Jenna Ortega’s ‘Wednesday’, and the – other – family show, to take the number one spot on Netflix’s New and Popular. The 8-part series now nestles in the Top 10 and already has an IMDB rating of 7.5. Yet details of a follow-up series are currently non-existent on the Internet, apart from comments from viewers needing more seasons.

Noah Centineo’s Owen Hendricks is instantly relatable as a winging-it lawyer fumbling his way around the CIA in his first week, possessing just enough intelligence to keep foes (and there are a lot of them) at bay. Yes, he’s that Noah from the ‘To All The Boys’ series, and he’s graduated to be an actor-to-watch as we become embroiled in his character’s circumstances; we’ve all had a first day when you can’t figure out politically who to trust in the office and overload the only person who will talk to us with questions. Potentially life-threatening questions, in Owen’s case, as it’s the CIA.

Laura Braddock portrays just the right amount of vulnerability and psychosis (with, frankly, the fringe of the season) as the alluring Max Meladze, the villain with the killer survival instinct. She saunters through scenes with sass and builds up Owen’s air miles as he flies between DC and her Arizonian incarceration, all before he’s received his first pay check.

Add in comedy from colleagues; the operative-turned-lawyer Lester (Colton Dunn) and the one-step-away-from-disaster Janus (Kristian Bruun) almost steal the show with their dialogue.  Fold in a love-quadrangle between Meladze, the quirky, career-focused Amelia (Kaylah Zander) and generous hearted Hannah (Fivel Stewart; who starred in the phenomenal Netflix show ‘Atypical’) for Owen and it becomes clear that ‘The Recruit’s creator and showrunner, Alexi Hawley (‘The Rookie’), simply has to give us a second (and third) season of this tense, funny, action-packed binge-worthy Netflix series.

‘The Recruit’ Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix now. Watch the trailer for the series below:
