Catherine Tyldesley becomes fifth celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing 2019

Catherine Tyldesley has become the fifth celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing 2019.

The Coronation Street star and her professional partner Johannes Radebe scored 24 points out of a possible 40 for their Cha-Cha-Cha to Scared Of The Dark by Steps. When the judges’ scores were combined with votes from the viewers at home, Catherine and Johannes found themselves in the dreaded dance-off, along with BBC Breakfast presenter Mike Bushell and his professional partner Katya Jones.

After both couples performed their dances again, the judges voted on who should stay on the dancefloor. For the first time this series, the decision was split. Craig Revel Horwood voted to save Mike and Katya, whilst Motsi Mabuse and Bruno Tonioli voted for Catherine and Johannes.

However, head judge Shirley Ballas had the casting vote and chose to save Mike and Katya, sending Catherine and Johannes home.

Speaking to presenter Tess Daly about her Strictly highlights after her elimination, Catherine said: “Him, yeah, he’s like my best friend. He’s just…oooh, [referring to her eye make-up] it’s waterproof…just the opportunity to work with amazing people and get critiqued off amazing people. I never thought I’d say this, I’m going to keep it up because I fell in love with it! I’ve loved every second, this man has changed my life!”

To applause from the audience, Johannes added: “Okay Tess, the beautiful thing is that I need to thank Strictly Come Dancing for the opportunity…thank you. Most of all, I want to say thank you to this woman. She has been a light for me. Thank you for accepting me for who I am and for showing me joy every day. Thank you!”

Sunday evening’s Results show also opened with a Halloween routine set to Britney Spears’ hit song Toxic, led by professional dancers Dianne Buswell and Giovanni Pernice, as well as a performance from international superstar Adam Lambert of his latest single Superpower.

Strictly Come Dancing will return on Saturday 2nd November at 7pm with the results show on Sunday 3rd November at 7.15pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
