His Dark Materials is an upcoming show from HBO and BBC based on the trilogy of novels (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass)Â by Phillip Pullman.
His Dark Materials is a dark fantasy set in a alternate world where a person’s soul is manifested as a shapeshifting animal. The story follows Lyra Belacqua (Dafne Keen) as she travels to the arctic to find her friend Roger. He, along with other children have been kidnapped by The Church who are conducting experiments on kids to discover more about Dust, an elemental particle. Lyra’s journey takes her on a considerable adventure across worlds and lands her in the midst of a massive war being waged across existence.

A release date has yet to be announced but the series boasts a stellar line up with James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson and Lin-Manuel Miranda leading the action with Dafne Keen taking on the main role, Lyra.
With Game of Thrones coming to an end shortly, HBO are surely looking for another big show to keep people viewing. Looking at this trailer, His Dark Materials could be a brilliant show to fill the gap left in our viewing schedule.
