20 game releases to watch out for in May 2019

It was a lot quieter month in April for new game releases. My top picks for the month were Days Gone and Mortal Kombat 11.

However, May is shaping up to be a much busier month for the big releases and due to that I’ve picked out 20 games to look forward to. As usual there something for everyone with releases across all the major platforms.

Of all of the May releases, I’m most looking forward to Life is Strange 2 – Episode 3. I’m also keen to check out American Fugitive and Rage 2.

Here’s a full list of my 20 games to watch out for in May 2019:

1st May

Table Top Racing: World Tour – Nitro Edition (Switch)

The micro combat racing mega hit gets an exclusive Nintendo Switch edition. It features all previously released downloadable content and updates as well as brand new split-screen multiplayer. If you’re getting a bit bored with Mario Kart then this is well worth picking up.

2nd May

Close to the Sun (PC/Epic Games Store)

A Nikola Tesla-inspired first-person horror game from Storm in a Teacup and Wired Productions. Close to the Sun sees players step onto the Helios, a colossal vessel for scientific research, steeped in horror and mystery. The game is set in an alternative 19th Century where famed inventor and futurist Nikola Tesla was able to fulfil his potential and change the world forever. If you enjoyed games like BioShock and Outlast then this is probably worth checking out.

Rise of Industry (PC/Steam, Mac, Linux)

Rise of Industry is inspired by classic old school tycoon games but adds a modern twist. It challenges you to build your fledgling company from the ground up and push for greatness in an ever-changing business climate. Create vast production lines, complex transport routes and meet the demand of towns and villages to see the profit roll in and your reputation soar. The game aims to satisfy both hardcore fans and those new to the genre.

9th May

Life is Strange 2 – Episode 3: Wastelands(PC/Steam, Xbox One, PS4, Switch)

Set a few months after Sean and Daniel escaped from Beaver Creek in Episode 2. The brothers journey to Mexico continues as they experience life on the fringes of society. Can the Diaz brothers stay together or will their journey together end here?

Yakuza Kiwami 2 (PC/Steam)

When a single gunshot takes out the Fifth Chairman of the Tojo Clan, Kazuma Kiryu must journey to Sotenbori, Osaka, to broker peace between rivalling clans. Kiryu is pulled back into the life he desperately wanted to leave as he faces the ambitious Ryuji Goda, the Dragon of Kansai, who will stop at nothing to get his war. In this world, there can only be one dragon…

14th May

A Plague Tale: Innocence (PC/Steam, Xbox One, PS4, Switch)

The debut IP from Asobo Studio promises to take you on an adventure through medieval, wartorn and plague-ridden France with siblings Amicia and Hugo. Expect an emotional tale packed with mystery, intrigue, and swarming with rats.

RAGE 2 (PC/Steam, Xbox One, PS4)

RAGE 2 features intense id-style combat mixed with the open-world mayhem of Avalanche Studios. The game claims to let you go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything. It looks completely mental, just check out the trailer below. If you like shooting stuff then this should be top of your list this month.

21st-24th May

American Fugitive (PC/Steam, Xbox One, PS4, Switch)

American Fugitive is a new action-packed open-world sandbox game from Curve Digital and developers Fallen Tree Games. Players take the role of Will Riley who faces life in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Fueled by grief over the cold-blooded murder of your father, and armed with a burning desire for vengence you’ll need to break out of jail to find the real culprit.

21st May

Observation (PC/Steam, PS4)

This one sounds brilliant. Observation is a sci-fi thriller uncovering what happened to Dr. Emma Fisher, and the crew of her mission, through the lens of the station’s artificial intelligence S.A.M. Players assume the role of S.A.M. by operating the station’s control systems, cameras, and tools to assist Emma in discovering what is happening to the station, the vanished crew, and S.A.M. himself.

Resident Evil HD Remaster, Zero & 4 (Switch)

If you own a Nintendo Switch and love the Resident Evil games then you’ll want to mark 21st May on your calender. That’s the day when Resident Evil HD Remaster, Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 4 all come to the console. Essential for any Survival Horror fan.

Slay the Spire (PS4)

Previously released on PC, this single player deckbuilder is a fusion of card games and roguelikes. Craft a unique deck, encounter bizarre creatures, discover relics of immense power, and Slay the Spire!

Oxygen Not Included (PC/Steam)

Oxygen Not Included, from Klei (Don’t Starve) is a space-colony simulation game. Manage your colonists and help them dig, build and maintain a subterranean asteroid base. You’ll need water, warmth, food, and oxygen to keep them alive, and even more than that to keep them happy.
