On the second episode of Curfew, the race got underway.

If you’re not up to date with Curfew and like to avoid spoilers we suggest you don’t read any further.

The episode gave us a few more glimpses of the various teams, including Team Awesome and The Queens of Stone. It mostly focused on the same three teams as the first episode though which were Team Donohue, MED VAC 239 and Lucky 13. The episode also made use of flashbacks to show us certain important events and also to give us more background on the motivations of Team Donohue.

At the end of the first episode, the race has just began. However, instead of showing us what happened, this episode jumped back a little way. We saw a new character, Roadkill Jim (Michael Biehn) being worshipped as he climbed into his super car.

There was also a little scene between Michael Garwick (Malachi Kirby) and The General (Sean Bean) where Garwick tried to set things straight between the pair. The General accepted and the pair shared an embrace before Garwick said “Let the best man win”. The General took massive offence at the comment and felt Garwick was insulting him and claiming to be the better driver.

We also saw a flashback to around 10 days before the race. It showed Roman (Ike Bennett) and his friend Linus hacking into medical research facility Brooke Heath. It’s the same facility that Garwick escaped from and they uncovered that they had a cure for the virus.

After the hack, Linus went missing and a team showed up at his house. Roman noticed Linus had brought and left his bike to his house. He searched it and found what looked like some drugs and also the USB stick with the hacked information. His father Simon (Adrian Lester) realised something was wrong and got Roman to spill the beans. It looks like this event is what led Simon to get his family entry into the race.

When the race got underway it was absolute mayhem as everyone rushed to get out of the starting building first. The co-ordinates for the finish pointed to the most northern tip of Scotland. The first obstacle for everyone was going to be getting across the River Thames.

Roadkill Jim stormed into the lead and made it to Tower Bridge first. As he approached he could see headlights which turned out to be the security services that ensure everyone obey the curfew. They fired a single shot through his windscreen which penetrated his chest and killed him.

The other leaders were also killed as they approached and those further back, including MED VAC 239 and Team Donohue realised what was happening. MED VAC 239 made a radio appeal to the other teams to avoid Tower Bridge. The General still annoyed at Garwick’s comment tried to run them off the road but ended up spinning his car. He wanted to go after them with a gun but his pregnant girlfriend Rose Williams (Faith Palladino) talked him down. The General definitely has deeper issues that I hope the series explores in more detail.

Team Donohue were trailing at the back and still coming to terms with the death of Simon. Roman scoured through a file that his father had compiled that had planned for nearly every possible circumstance. It suggested they head to Wandsworth Bridge. The plan was to fire a beacon onto the bridge from a nearby rooftop that would draw out the Mooks (infected). When a large number had amassed a protocol would kick in forcing the security services to clear the horde.

Roman took charge but held the bazooka the wrong way and fired the beacon backwards. Knowing that MED VAC 239 would have more beacons, Team Donohue made an appeal to them for help and promised help crossing the Thames in exchange. They agreed and brought the beacons. This time Garwick fired it and then they waited for their plan to work.

It did so they returned to their vehicles and prepared to cross the river. The General turned up and shot out a wheel on each of their vehicles before zooming off across the bridge. MED VAC 239 quickly replaced their wheel while Team Donohue struggled. Garwick wanted to leave them to it but Kaye (Phoebe Fox) didn’t want to leave them stranded and helped. In exchange, Roman gave them the next set of instructions from his father’s plan.

Elsewhere in the episode, it was revealed that Kaye and Ruby’s (Aimee-Ffion Edwards) mother survived being shot. She was taken to a medical facility.

The episode ended with a shot of Team Donohue and MED VAC 239 driving towards the wall that surrounds London.

On the third episode of Curfew. London’s huge wall presents the racers with another massive obstacle. Meanwhile, The General and Faith hatch a sneaky plan and Jenny grows increasingly anxious.

Curfew continues at 9pm Friday on Sky One. Preview it with our gallery below:
