Madonna Month: A to Z of Madonna Singles – O

Her Madgesty is celebrating her 60th birthday this month so we’re dedicating August to the Queen of Pop.  We will be picking our A to Z of Madonna singles each day this month as well as asking you to vote for your favourite Madonna album.

Today is brought to you by the letter O.

O is for Open Your Heart.  The fourth single from Madonna’s True Blue album is an energetic pop gem dealing with love and letting someone in.  Released in 1986 it was another worldwide success as she continued to cement her position as the biggest female popstar on the planet.

Single facts

  • Open Your Heart was written by Peter Rafelson and Gardner Cole for Cyndi Lauper but Madonna heard it and reworked it with Patrick Leonard to make the song we know and love today
  • The track became Madonna’s fifth US no.1 single and peaked at no.4 in the UK
  • In the video, Madonna portrays a stripper at a peep show and starts her show with a cropped black wig which she takes off to reveal her short peroxide blond locks
  • Open Your Heart was the opening song of Madonna’s Who’s That Girl Tour in 1987

The other singles for the letter O are Oh Father (originally from Madonna’s Like A Prayer album) and One More Chance, both from ballads compilation Something To Remember.  Tell us @entfocusmusic and what you’d pick for the letter P.
