Happy Birthday Jennifer Lopez; Our top 5 J-Lo tracks

You won’t believe it but Jennifer Lopez turns 49 this week on 24th July.  The ageless beauty has been scoring hits for nearly two decades now and is currently wowing audiences in Las Vegas with her live shows.

Keen eyed music fans will remember Jenny from the block appearing in Janet Jackson’s That’s the Way Love Goes video some 25 years ago, but it wasn’t until 1999 that she released her debut English language album with the pop/R&B sound of If You Had My Love. That track went top 5 in the UK and was the start of a chart run that has seen her secure 23 top 40 hits.

But which of those hits is our favourite?  We count down our top 5 in reverse order:

5. Ain’t It Funny

There were two versions of this track and both are excellent for different reasons. The first version is pure latin vibes and I defy anyone to sit still listening to this song; your shoulders are lifting up and down as you read this right? However, it was the remixed version featuring Ja Rule that we’ve chosen for our ultimate Jennifer Lopez top 5. The laidback reworking bears no resemblance to the original version and actually spawned a whole remix album J to tha L-O!

4. Waiting For Tonight

Released with a timely countdown to 2000 and the new millennium, Waiting For Tonight is a dance-pop track with a latin flavour. The video even has the ‘of the time’, dance break with Jennifer getting to show off her moves. Something we think should be brought back in today’s video – it’s a must!

3. Get Right

One of three UK no.1 singles for our Jenny, Get Right gets you from the start with its infectious horn riff. The video sees Jennifer playing several roles of various people at a nightclub; from cool DJ to geeky, had-one-too-many, secretary dancing on the table.

2. Play

The second single from her second album JLO, Play is a Princesque little number that was co-written by Christian Milian and demands the DJ plays the song Jennifer wants or else.  Remember she’s from the Bronx so don’t mess!

1. Jenny from the Block

Don’t be fooled by her rocks, she is still just the girl nextdoor, admittedly one that’s worked hard, danced harder and become an iconic singer and actress. The video to Jenny from the Block includes then boyfriend, actor Ben Affleck and the track went as high as no.3 in the UK charts.  It’s our favourite Jennifer single, do you agree?
