All Points East 2018: LCD Soundsystem profile

With only a few days before All Points East opens its doors, it is only timely that I look back at LCD Soundsystem’s career ahead of their headline slot this coming Friday.

LCD Soundsystem started to record music in the early and released multiple singles from 2002 to 2004 leading up to their eponymous debut studio album, which was released in 2005. The self-titled debut garnered critical acclaim as well as a Grammy Award nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album. Their single, Daft Punk Is Playing at My House, which has become the band’s most successful single also received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording. In 2011, however, LCD Soundsystem debanded much to the world’s disappointment.

Even though LCD Soundsystem have only released four albums (LCD Soundsystem, Sound of Silver, This Is Happening and last year’s American Dream), this band has gained cult status amongst the music industry. When frontman, James Murphy called it a day at the height of the bands career, their farewell concert film, Shut Up And Play The Hits became an iconic document of one of the best live band’s in recent memory. Thankfully this wasn’t the band’s last hurrah as they reformed for select shows and their enormous, critically acclaimed comeback album American Dream.

Frontman James Murphy is also heavily involved in other ventures one of which you will be able to experience at the festival. Despacio is the collaboration between James Murphy and David and Stephen Dewaele (Soulwax, 2manydjs).This collaboration includes a bespoke soundsystem that envelopes the crowd in amazing sound for a vinyl. The trio will be behind the decks for all three days of the festival for a UK festival exclusive.

LCD Soundsystem will headline the main stage on Friday night at All Points East festival.
