The Yorkshire Silent Film Festival returns this May, hosted in the region where the earliest motion picture process was born.
Offering a host of unique showings and live performance, the festival honours the magic of great silent films from across the world.
There will be special screenings throughout Hebden Bridge, Holmfirth, Huddersfield, Hull, Leeds, Leyburn, Marsden, Scarborough, Settle, Sheffield, Thirsk, Ossett and York.
The festival begins on 8th May with Paul Merton’s Silent Clowns, a night of classic silent movie comedy with Neil Brand at the piano in Leeds’ famous City Varieties music hall – the stage where a young Charles Chaplin performed at the beginning of his career.
Over 40 special presentations across the region include Laurel and Hardy, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Oliver Twist with live score, Beggars of Life and Harold Lloyd’s Speedy.
