Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real formed 10 years ago, led by 28-year-old Lukas Nelson, who is the son of legendary Country music performer Willie Nelson. Two years ago Promise of the Real were selected by Neil Young to be his touring and studio band, with Young going on to be their mentor.
Talking about their rise to prominence Nelson says, āWhatās happened with us feels similar to the career trajectory of The Band,ā he continues. āThey were already a great band when they started working with Dylan, who lifted them up, which is similar to what Neilās done for us. Heās also given people a chance to hear what weāre doing and what our own songs have to offer. Then we played the Desert Trip with Neil, along with Paul McCartney, the Stones, the Who and Dylan. That was incredible.ā
Nelson has also been writing with Lady Gaga for her remake of A Star is Born, after capturing director and star Bradley Cooper’s attention.
āAt first I was just helping him out, and then I started writing with Stefani (Lady Gaga), whoās in the movie. We connected and she and I became really close. I got very involved in this film and ended up bringing the band into it as well.ā
You can see Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real at C2C: Country to Country at The O2 in London on Saturday.
