Love Actually: Live in Concert enchants London

This past weekend saw sold-out performances of Love Actually: Live in Concert in London at the world famous Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

The undisputed king of romantic Christmas movies got an enchanting live concert treatment with Craig Armstrong’s emotionally-charged score taking centre-stage for an event that was simply outstanding.

Love Actually is one of the world’s best-loved Christmas films, and is enjoyed by millions of us time and time again during this festive period.

The live concert setting was ground-breaking for featuring a full orchestra performing the unmistakable music that has gone onto define the movie just as much as the performances and story.

Kicking off the holiday season and getting many into the holiday spirit, the tour took in Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Bristol as well as London.

Directed by Richard Curtis and originally released in cinemas in 2003, Love Actually tells ten separate yet interweaving stories of love around Christmas time.

The film features an all-star ensemble cast, including Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Bill Nighy, Martine McCutcheon, the late Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Keira Knightley Rowan Atkinson, Martin Freeman, and many more.

The full, live orchestra that performed Craig Armstrong’s evocative score at these shows were sensational and coupled up nicely with the film being projected onto a huge screen.

Craig Armstrong is one of the UK’s most recognised film composers, with his work being awarded a BAFTA for his Achievement in Film Music. It was an utter joy to see his work on the film performed live.

Armstrong’s other outstanding soundtrack work includes the amazing scores for Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Kiss of the Dragon, Ray, The Incredible Hulk, The Great Gatsby, Me Before You and Bridget Jones’s Baby.

With the film becoming a Christmas tradition for many, audiences who attended the Love Actually Live Concert Tour were treated to a unique experience that really resonated with everyone.
