Propel have launched their brand new series of Star Wars drones and they are a thing of beauty!

At this festive time of year, there are lots of people still struggling to find that perfect Christmas gift for their loved ones. If your gift-recipient falls into the Star Wars fan category (and who doesn’t?!), then they’ll be blown away by Propel’s range of amazing Star Wars drones, which we think are the perfect gift for Christmas and the hottest new tech on the market.

Check out our in-depth look at Propel Star Wars drones and what they can do.

Rest assured that if you are a Star Wars fan, you have to own these drones. They are enormously fun to fly! But there’s a lot more going on under the hood of these remarkable flying machines. You need to see them up close to really appreciate the time and effort Propel put into creating such a desired collectible for the Star Wars enthusiast.

Having our love for Star Wars reinvigorate by the likes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Last Jedi means that everyone is super excited about these new drones.

So let’s take a look at 10 reasons why we think Propel Star Wars drones are a must-own this Christmas.

They are Star Wars drones!

The first one might be an obvious one but there’s something undeniably cool about piloting your very own Star Wars drone. The attention to detail is the first thing that will strike you about these drones. The paint-job alone is staggering and coupled with some amazing tech, makes a Star Wars gift that will be unequalled come Christmas morning.

The packaging

Think how amazed your gift-recipient will be when they open this up on Christmas Day! The limited collector’s edition model comes in a plush matt-black finish outer box that looks as stunning as any Star Wars merchandise we’ve ever seen before. The inner box has a gorgeous silver finish that is as impressive as the tech it houses. It plays the Star Wars theme when you open it and lights up! That might seem like a gimmick to some but honestly, it sets the tone for the experience you are about to embark on (and is damn cool too!).

They are perfect for drone newbies

If, like me, you have zero drone experience, Propel Star Wars drones are the perfect way to get introduced into this world. They have created a series of challenges and virtual tasks to get you ready to fly and to minimise any damage you might do to your drones at the very beginning of your training. You can even clip on physical plastic transparent guards onto the drone to help absorb any shocks or bumps.

You can fly three different iconic Star Wars vehicles

Propel’s Star Wars drones are modelled on three classic Star Wars vehicles from the movies: the T-65 X-Wing Starfighter, piloted by Luke Skywalker when he blows up the Death Star, Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced X1 and the 74-Z Speeder Bike piloted by Scout Troopers at the Battle of Endor.

They have Intelligent Awareness Technology

I.A.T stands for Intelligent Awareness Technology and is Propel’s groundbreaking tech which bridges the gap between virtual gaming and the real world. It utilises four latency-free wireless communication systems to create a compelling gameplay platform.

Free to download and available on iOS and Android devices, the Propel Star Wars drone app is essentially a computer flight simulator set within environments from the film. It lets you learn to fly your drone virtually through a series of tasks and challenges that will get you and you reactions fully in-tune with your drone. You can use your actual drone controller to pilot the virtual drone in the app via Bluetooth too.

You can have Star Wars laser dog-fights with your friends

You and your mates can now recreate those iconic Star Wars battles from the movies, along with sound-bites and music from the film series playing out of the very controllers you are using to fly!

It will appeal to Drone experts looking for a new challenge

So far we have talked about Propel Star Wars drones as the perfect gift for newbies, but it’s the expert drone community that will get the most out of this right from the get-go. Housed with remarkable tech and increased challenges and battle modes, the more experienced drone user will find Propel Star Wars drones an endless route of possibility.

Li-Fi technology

Propel is the first company to integrate Li-Fi (Light Fidelity) technology into their drones, which can transmit data at 100 times the speed of WiFi. Now that’s fast! This means that you can communicate with other drone users, especially during dog-fights, as you shoot lasers at one another and assemble your squadron into battle manoeuvres to bring down your opponents. Along with push-button aerial stunts like corkscrews and loops, it makes laser drone dog-fighting lots of fun with your friends.

The drones are very fast

Christmas morning should be full of fun and excitement and what’s more fun than piloting a Star Wars drone at speeds exceeding 30mph! Picking up speeds of up to 30mph in around 3 seconds, with a top speed clocked at about 35mph, they have also polished the surface and injected polycarbonate into the propeller blades to make them almost invisible when the drone is in flight. It’s another great added extra to really immerse the pilot into the world, and using Reverse Repulsion Propel have pioneered a new way of drone handling to make them fly more like they are supposed to. The traditional drone form is to pull airflow down to fly – these Propel Star Wars drones push instead!

The future…

Propel Star Wars drones are only just scratching the surface of what’s to come. By getting in at the start, you’ll be well-versed in the world of drones when Propel launch their new wave of technology infused drones – surely including a fan-demanded Millennium Falcon – in the not-too-distant future!

Propel Star Wars drones are available now from John Lewis and all good retailers.
