Top 10 scary games to play for Halloween 2017

Our scary games picks to play on Halloween this year.

As tomorrow is Halloween I’ve decided to pick out some suggestions of scary games to play.

This year more games than ever seem to be trying to get in on the Halloween action with everything from Halloween themed events and levels to characters and items. Yesterday I picked out my favourite games with Halloween events in 2017.

For players looking for something a little more scary this Halloween I’ve picked out some suggestions below:

10. Five Nights at Freddy’s Series

PC, iOS, Android

In Five Nights at Freddy’s, by Scott Cawthon, players work as a security guard where they need to monitor security cameras at various locations. When you’re not looking things get strange and there are plenty of jump scares. As it’s available on mobile you can play it wherever you end up this Halloween.

9. Call of Duty: Zombies

PC, Xbox One, PS4

If you’re not massively into horror games but love first-person shooters then chances are you’ll have at least one copy of Call of Duty with a Zombies mode. Group up with friends for endless zombie slaying co-op fun this Halloween.

8. Deceit

PC

Deceit makes my list again this year and has recently undergone some changes. Deceit is a multiplayer psychological first-person shooter that tests your instincts at trust and deception. A group of six players awaken in an enclosed area and are each secretly assigned to a team, four innocents trying to escape and two others trying to stop them. Best of all it’s free-to-play.

Check out the official Deceit website for more information on the game.

7. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

PC, Xbox One, PS4

Resident Evil returned to it’s roots for the latest entry in the survival horror series. Play as Ethan Winters as he searches for his wife Mia. Survive the twisted, terrifying Baker family and explore their mysterious and deadly mansion in Dulvey, Louisiana.

6. Alien: Isolation

PC, Xbox One, PS4

Do you like hide and seek? Have you ever fancied playing it with an Alien? In Alien: Isolation players must use stealth in order to survive. The game is full of tension and rather frightening. Play in the dark with headphones for extra atmosphere.

5. Outlast 2

PC, Xbox One, PS4

Outlast 2 is the terrifying sequel to the first-person survival horror game Outlast. Players take the role of an investigative journalist named Blake Langermann. Blake and his wife Lynn get separated in a helicopter crash, so you have to find her. Your journey takes you through a village inhabited by a sect that believes the end of days are upon them. Scary stuff.

4. Until Dawn

PS4

Until Dawn is an interactive drama survival horror adventure game. Eight friends are trapped on a remote mountain retreat and things quickly turn sinister. Your decisions and reactions influence the outcome of the story and no character is safe. Can you get them all to survive Until Dawn?

Read our Until Dawn review.

3. The Evil Within 2

PC, Xbox One, PS4

In The Evil Within 2, Sebastian Castellanos must once again confront unspeakable horrors within the nightmare born from the infamous STEM. This time, however, Sebastian’s mission is personal: He’s searching for his daughter Lily, who he thought he had lost many years ago, and it’s now a race against time as the world crumbles around him. Sebastian must rescue Lily before everything falls apart and they are both lost in STEM.

2. Amnesia: Collection

PS4

A great collection of scary titles from Frictional Games. This collection contains three games: The Dark Descent, Justine and A Machine For Pigs. My recommendation out of the three would be Amnesia: The Dark Descent which is definitely the scariest of the bunch.

If you’re a PS Plus member there is still time to pick up Amnesia: Collection for free as part of October’s game selection.

1. Dead by Daylight

PC, Xbox One, PS4

The asymmetrical multiplayer game by Behaviour Interactive is my top pick to play this Halloween online with friends. One player takes on the role of a savage killer while up to four players must desperately try to survive the terrifying nightmare. The survivors play in in third person and the killer plays in first person.

To make things even more scary you might want to consider picking up the recently released Nightmare On Elm Street DLC. The additional content adds ’80s horror film icon Freddie Krueger to the mix.
