The search for The X Factor 2017 winner continued tonight as Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh picked the final 3 contestants in their categories: the Groups and the Boys.

First up tonight were the Groups who were flown to the French Riviera to Simon Cowell’s home. Helping Simon make his decision was former judge Cheryl Tweedy.

The Groups are one of the strongest categories this year and Simon seemed quite excited to mentor them. Tonight’s show was packed with incredible performances and the standard is really high. Cheryl offered advice by pointing out whom she thought had the ‘X’ factor and the Groups made it hard for her because they really delivered the goods.

Even with Cheryl on his side, Simon had a tough time trying to pick his top three but he chose The Cutkelvins, Sean & Conor Price and Rak-Su.

The Boys were up next and they were flown to Istanbul to meet mentor Louis Walsh. Helping Louis pick his top 3 was guest judge Mika.

The Boy’s category is also full of strong contenders this year, which meant Mika and Louis had to struggle to pick the best three. Some of the singers seemed too emotional at times, which begged the question of whether they could sing every week in front of the whole nation? Would Louis be prepared to take a gamble and put someone through who might crumble under pressure?

Louis deliberated over his acts but with the help of Mika he chose Spencer Sutherland, Sam Black and Lloyd Macey.

Next week the acts will battle it out on first live show of the series and the power will be passed on to the public to decide who should stay in the competition.

The X Factor 2017 live shows begin next Saturday on ITV.
