Jodie Whittaker is confirmed as the first female Doctor Who

Jodie Whittaker has been announced as the new Doctor Who.

The reveal was made following the Men’s Wimbledon Final today. A short video teaser played showing someone in a hooded coat walking through a forest.

As the key to the TARDIS appeared in the person’s hand, they took off their hood and it was revealed to be actress Jodie Whittaker. This marks the first time an actress has played the Doctor.

Whittaker is expected to make her first appearance as the Doctor in this year’s Christmas special, which will be the final appearance for current Doctor Peter Capaldi.

Speculation had been rife that the new Doctor would be a woman, with Whittaker one of the names in the mix for the role.

The new series of Doctor Who, which will be Whittaker’s first, will also be the first to be run by new showrunner Chris Chibnall.

What do you think of Whittaker being revealed as the first female Doctor?
