On the latest episode of Lethal Weapon, Riggs (Clayne Crawford) and Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) became embroiled in a notorious car theft ring.
The episode opened up with a man trying to steal a car from the police lockup. The security guard was able to scare the would-be thief away.
Meanwhile, Riggs started his day with the only two things in his fridge – beer and mustard. He then managed to drop his wedding ring down the garbage disposal and cut his fingers retrieving it. Later, during a session with Dr. Cahill (Jordana Brewster), she wondered if actually losing it might help him move on from Miranda.
In the Murtaugh household, RJ was still nagging about getting a car. Roger wanted him to get an old banger as a first car. As Trish (Keesha Sharp) served up a breakfast of fake meat, Roger had chest pains which worried her.
Riggs and Murtaugh were called to the site of the attempted car theft. They examined the car and realised it had huge quantities of drugs stuffed inside the doors. Riggs also discovered some blood on the fence that the thief had climbed to escape.
A tow-truck arrived to take the car away to be examined but it turned out to be the guys who wanted the car. Riggs and Murtaugh gave chase with Riggs driving like a maniac. During the pursuit the car fell off the back of the tow-truck. Riggs aborted the pursuit when Roger had chest pains and took him to the hospital. Roger had him promise not to tell Trish or Captain Avery (Kevin Rahm).
Back at the precinct, Riggs arranged for Roger to do paperwork while he went to see Dr. Cahill for another session. Except that he didn’t have a session, he was just making sure Roger was resting while he went after a suspect.
The blood sample led Riggs to a guy called Dino (Chris Coy) who had previous ties to a drug dealer named Angelo. Riggs tracked him down but Dino wouldn’t believe he was a cop as he didn’t have his badge with him. Instead he pulled a gun on Riggs but Roger arrived on the scene and they took him in.
Trish turned up at the precinct as Dino was a client of hers. She had known him since he was 15 and helped him turn his life around. She insisted he was innocent and vowed to get him released at his court hearing. Riggs and Murtaugh were worried about going up against Trish. Meanwhile, Bailey (Michelle Mitchenor) and Cruz (Richard Cabral) paid a visit to Dino’s brother.
In court, Trish ripped Riggs to pieces on the stand. His story was full of holes as he was trying to protect Roger. Eventually Trish pushed him hard for being evasive and he gave up that Roger had been having heart issues. The case was thrown out and Dino released.
The blood evidence eventually pointed that it was in fact Dino’s brother who had been trying to steal the car. Riggs and Murtaugh convinced Trish into helping them arrange a meeting. Dino refused to help because his brother had since been kidnapped until the dealer got his money or drugs back.
Riggs suggested they take the $2 million worth of drugs from evidence and then record the dealer. Doing so required forging Avery’s signature and getting past Monty on the evidence desk. Monty had a grudge against Roger due to their past. Instead Riggs talked him into giving over the drugs.
With the drugs in hand and Dino wearing a wire the trap was set. They had Riggs handcuffed to the car to make things look plausible to the dealer. Roger was under instruction from Trish to sit it out so he stayed nearby and listened in.
During the meet the dealer checked his drugs were all there. He then ordered the car with Riggs be pushed into the river. Murtaugh arrived on scene and began shooting as Riggs struggled to free himself. He eventually got out of the cuffs but lost his wedding ring.
At the end of the episode, Riggs went to a pawn shop and bought himself a replacement wedding ring.
