Well this news came out of nowhere! Tom Hardy is in final negotiations to star as Venom, the fan-favourite villain from the Spider-Man universe.
Having enjoyed a lot of success with their latest reboot of Spider-Man, who made a first cameo appearence in Captain America: Civil War last summer, Sony are now moving full steam ahead with their own Spider-Man Universe of movies.
Fast-tracked into cinemas for its release on October 5th 2018, Hardy will play disgraced journalist Eddie Brock, who later transforms into Venom, one of Spider-Man’s most fearsome adversaries.
No much is known about the direction that this screen version of Venom will take, but we hope it’s handled with a lot more care than the terrible version that ended up in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.
We will next see the web-slinger in Spider-Man: Homecoming, hitting cinemas on 5th July.
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (played by Brit actor Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his new-found identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.).
Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
Spider-Man: Homecoming co-stars Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Donald Glover, Jon Favreau, Michael Keaton, Garcelle Beauvais, Angourie Rice, Zendaya, Hannibal Buress and Bokeem Woodbine.
Check out the image of Tom Hardy (wearing a Venom t-shirt no less) that was released on social media yesterday when the news broke that he was going to be Venom.
