The Marion Crane (Rihanna) arc came to a surprising close on the latest episode of Bates Motel.

Unlike the original Psycho movie, Marion made it out alive as Bates Motel threw an unexpected twist into their version of her story. Marion checked herself into the motel and she shared a meal with Norman (Freddie Highmore) until they were interrupted by a call from Sam (Austin Nichols).

Desperate to see her lover, Marion asked Norman for Sam’s address and he informed her that Sam was married. A distraught Marion drove to his house where she saw him fighting with Madeleine (Isabelle McNally) so she got her revenge by smashing up his car.

Witnessing Marion’s actions, Madeleine put two and two together and threw Sam out of the house. Marion returned to the motel and Norman struggled to keep Mother (Vera Farmiga) at bay but managed to convince Marion to leave town, which she did.

Mother taunted Norman over his decision and drudged up Norman’s father. Meanwhile Sam arrived at the motel and after finding Marion gone, decided to take a shower.

Norman entered the room and stabbed Sam to death in a shower scene reminiscent of Marion Crane’s demise in Psycho.

Elsewhere Dylan (Max Thieriot) finally learned about Norma’s death and called Norman to confront him about it.

The next episode of the season is Inseparable. Norman and Mother are brought together as trouble looms, Romero (Nestor Carbonell) convalesces at the home of an old friend and Dylan returns home.
