This summer will see the unveiling of the newest residents of Walford’s most famous district Albert Square; the Taylor family.

Lorraine Stanley (of Call the Midwife fame) returns to EastEnders after a one year absence as new character Karen Taylor. Karen is a no-nonsense single mother who brings with her four children; Keanu (Danny Walters), Bernadette (Clair Norris), Riley (Tom Jacobs) and Chatham (Alfie Jacobs) and their pets Bronson the dog and Rooney the bearded dragon. Expect fireworks as the Taylors tear up the Square and attempt to keep their big secret hidden.

EastEnders’ executive producer Sean O’Connor says that he is excited about the new arrivals; ‘They’re noisy, brash and not-to-be-messed-with. Karen is a twenty-a-day lioness, bringing up her kids with no support, no money and a very loud mouth. But though they may lack cash, the Taylors have love and warmth in spades. This summer is going to be explosive as the Taylors settle in Walford. The Square will never be quite the same again’

The Taylor family will bring with them their own baggage and new issues to the series. Brothers Riley and Chatham both have learning difficulties and Bernadette is a representation of the fame hungry generation, whilst eldest child Keanu seeks to fill the void as ‘man of the household’. His fiercely protective nature will surely lead to friction amongst the established cast.

One thing seems certain, the Taylors are unlikely to bring a ray of sunshine to pierce the usual gloom, they are set to stir things up significantly and with such a disparate cast and selection of characters it seems fair to say that they will become a mainstay of the show for years to come.
