The X-Files is coming back for season 11

Following much speculation, FOX has announced that The X-Files will return for season 11 during the 2017-2018 season.

The new season will contain 10 episodes, four more than season 10 did, and will see the return of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The series creator Chris Carter will executive produce.

“Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide,” said David Madden, President, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”

Filming on the new season of The X-Files is due to begin this summer.

The X-Files returned for a 10th season in 2016 and drew an average multi-platform audience of nearly 16 million viewers. It was last season’s no. 2 broadcast drama in the US and one of the most talked-about event series of Twitter.

Season 10 was the show’s first new episodes since 2002 and the first time fans had seen Mulder and Scully together since 2008 big screen outing The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
