MacGyver 1×04 Wire Cutter preview

On the latest episode of MacGyver, Angus “Mac” MacGyver (Lucas Till) had plenty of opportunity to show off his unique skills.

At the start of the episode, Mac and Jack Dalton (George Eads) had to escape from a burning building. A staircase was the only exit route but that was destroyed by some exploding gas canisters. With some quick thinking, two body bags and a couple of fire extinguishers, Mac made them an airbag each to break their fall as they jumped out of a window.

The main case revolved around a terrorist group called D-77 who were planning an attack. To try and learn their plans they went after their money man Ralph (Oliver Cooper) who was wanted by the FBI for fraud.

Ralph lived in Malaysia so the team headed out. They needed access to his apartment without alerting security. Mac was able to create interference with the Wi-Fi of the security system using a fizzy drink can and some microchips. They then watched the code that Ralph entered to reset it.

As they tried to leave with Ralph, a sniper shot him through his chest. They escaped in his SUV. Mac was able to create a one way valve using parts of the SUV and a drivers licence.

The sniper was soon on their tail so Mac improvised. He made a smoke bomb using a headrest, some paper and a lighter. This created a smokescreen allowing them to escape the road without being seen.

Next Ralph required emergency surgery to keep him alive. Riley (Tristin Mays) tracked down a local doctor and used a translation app to talk with him. He explained the necessary procedure and Mac used parts of the SUV to carry it out. This included a car jack as a rib spreader and tubing with the windscreen wipers to drain the blood.

To try and get D-77 off their tail Mac hatched a plan to make them think Ralph was dead. He used beta blockers to slow his heart enough to make his pulse undetectable. D-77 fell for it but instead of discarding him, they took his body away to cut it up.

Mac and Jack went after them with only minutes to administer an antidote to save Ralph. Mac made some gas masks with rubbish from a nearby bin and then used gas from the air conditioning to disorientate the gang members.

With a bit of a fight they were able to get Ralph out and bring him back to life. He agreed to testify against D-77 and would be given witness protection.

Elsewhere in the episode, Bozer was making a monster movie. He had Mac act out the part of the monster. Riley offered to help him with the CGI software.

At the end of the episode, Jack told Mac to contact his father to fix things as they hadn’t spoken in a long time. Instead of using the phone Jack offered, Mac decided to write a letter.

The next episode is Wire Cutter, the official synopsis for the episode reads:

Mac and Jack partner with older versions of themselves, a Russian bomb programmer and his estranged handler, to shut down a Soviet-era warhead in Moscow. But when the antiquated computer needed to disable the warhead becomes inoperable, Mac must find a way to fix it with only duct tape and wire in time to prevent a new Cold War.
