EF’s Underdogs Alfred Hall, Liima and more

Find out who we’ve been listening to the past month!

I am back for the March edition of EF’s underdogs, my guide to new music.

This month has been filled with great new music and I can’t wait to share it. As always I’ve been picking out the best of the new music that has come my way, highlighting who you should be listening to this month.

Keep reading if you want to find out who I am tipping for great things in 2016 and beyond.

Alfred Hall

Alfred Hall is a Norwegian duo made of Hans Thomas, an engineering undergrad, and medical student Bjørn Tveit, who formed back in 2009 and by 2012 had gathered a fanbase and attracted the attention of Sony Norway. Quickly after that Alfred Hall released their debut album and were nominated for Best Pop Album at the Norwegian Grammys. What I love about this duo is how upbeat the music is. Take Safe and Sound for example, the single is peaceful and fun in equal measures and I have not stopped listening to this track ever since I discovered it.

Liima

This next band is composed of Finnish percussionist Tatu Rönkkö and Mads, Casper and Rasmus of Efterklang the result is Liima a bizarre and wonderful combination of eccentric sounds topped with captivating vocals. Fans of Efterklang might find this new venture either completely alien or genius. For me its certainly the latter and I can’t recommend the music enough. What I love is how refreshing Liima’s sound is.

Ella Deva

Ella Deva is a duo, who started its career with a spot on Al Waser’s Weekly Top 20 and working with engineers from Abbey Road Studios. During the making of the duo’s new song, Take It All, Ella Deva had the opportunity to work with session musicians and producers, providing a fresh take on their music. They describe their influence behind the track as deriving from a deep passion for music and people around them that they find inspiring. I love how soulful and old school Ella Deva’s sound is.

Matt Karmil

I couldn’t leave you without something for the weekend and Matt Karmil has been my fix for the past few weeks. Matt has been making music from an early age and started traveling from Salisbury, to London, Paris, Stockholm and Berlin. He finally settled in Cologne where we surrounded himself with likeminded musicians.  Moment builds slowly but is well worth the wait, the track is mellow yet powerful and fast enough to allow you to dance. The whole thing culminates to a spectacular finish and I just love it. I love it before a night out!

Underdogs will be back same time in April with more fresh sounds so stay tunes for great music.
