Red Sky July – Ally McErlaine (guitarist in Texas), Shelly Poole (previously one half of Alisha’s Attic) and Charity Hair (guitarist/vocalist in The Alice Band) – are gearing up for the release of their new album The Truth and the Lie this month.
The trio who are described as ‘a hazy blend of Alt-Country and Americana’ will be performing material from the record this weekend at C2C: Country to Country at The O2 Arena in London. Fans can also expect selections from their previous albums too.
Ahead of C2C the band shared their Inspirations playlist, giving an insight into the artists that have influenced them and helped to share their distinctive sound.
Mykonos – Fleet Foxes
This was one of our big inspirations when we formed RSJ, we love their harmonious sound.
Wichita Lineman – Glen Campbell
One of the all the greatest epic country songs ever recorded.
She – Gram Parsons
Gram was a big reason for getting into country music on the first place.
Four Strong Winds – Neil Young
Another 70’s classic with amazing harmonies.
The Marry Song – Band of Horses
Fantastic song with a mysterious lyric about borrowing a wheelbarrow. We have covered this in a lot of different ways.
Landslide – Fleetwood Mac
Could have named a few others by them but we think this one wins out.
Carrie and Lowell – Sufjan Stevens
Always an inspirational musician from folky acoustic to weird electronica.
Emmylou – First Aid Kit
We are big fans of them, love the Scandinavian pop melodies over Americana production.
Bargain Store – Dolly Parton
Not her most well-known song but a classic, she made so many other great records than her big hits.
Wild Horses- the Rolling Stones
We love this Gram Parsons inspired song , beautiful chord progression and lovely lazy guitar sound.
Red Sky July will be performing as part of C2C: Country to Country. They release their new album The Truth and the Lie on Friday 25th March 2016. Watch the band’s video for The Truth and the Lie below:
