Anti-Valentine’s Day playlist: 10 songs including Mariah Carey, Eamon & more

Valentine’s Day is all about the love but only if you’re in a relationship with someone.

What about the millions of people out there who’ve recently gone through a tough break-up or just don’t have/want a special someone in their lives. While smug happy couples are trading heart-shaped boxes of chocolates and roses, the singletons are carrying on as normal.

To celebrate those singletons out there, we’ve put together an anti-Valentine’s Day playlist featuring a variety of songs that stick a nice firm middle finger up to love.

Do you have these on your playlist?

10. Hilary Duff – So Yesterday

The debut hit from the singer and actress, So Yesterday is an ode to a relationship that is dead and buried. Clearly from the lyrics Hilary wasted no time shedding tears so if you’ve recently had a break-up then you should probably follow her lead.

9. Pussycat Dolls – I Don’t Need a Man

Are you feisty and independent? Well this is your anthem. The Pussycat Dolls uptempo hit puts an end to the idea that you need a partner in your life to make you feel whole. The seductive bunch prove that they don’t need anybody to make them feel good about themselves. Empowering stuff!

8. Selena Gomez – Same Old Love

Sick of love? Tired of going through the same old cycle with every relationship? Well Selena Gomez wants you to know you’re not alone. Her hit Same Old Love sees the singer admitting she’s tired of going round in circles and she’s determined to make a clean break with this relationship.

7. Carrie Underwood – Before He Cheats

Not every relationship ends with a clean break and sometimes the only answer is to teach your former partner a lesson, especially when that partner has cheated on you. Follow Carrie’s lead, grab a Louisville Slugger and smash some headlights. It may be illegal but you’ll likely feel a hell of a lot better.

6. Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend

You know that feeling when you see your ex’s new partner for the first time? Avril Lavigne has you covered with her infectious hit Girlfriend. There’s no harm in pointing out that the new partner is no comparison for the previous one right?

5. Demi Lovato – Stone Cold

Sometimes you can’t just enjoy a clean break and move on. Sometimes you want to move on so bad and be happy for your former lover but you simply can’t. Demi Lovato has captured that frustration and pain perfectly in her latest song. Being happy through gritted teeth is something we’ve all done at some point or another.

4. Mariah Carey – Obsessed

You’ve moved on but your ex hasn’t and it’s starting to become a real pain. Mariah Carey knows all about that and her hit single Obsessed took aim at Eminem, who is alleged to have gone a bit OTT when she told him she wasn’t interested. No one throws shade like MC.

3. Eamon – F**k It (I Don’t Want You Back)

The best way to get over a relationship sometimes is pure honesty. That’s what Eamon went for with his one and only hit. The expletive-laden track leaves you under no illusion of how he felt about his ex. Maybe you need to let it out and you’ll feel better?

2. Beyonce – Irreplaceable

Knowing your self-worth is important as Beyonce pointed out in her hit Irreplaceable. It’s vital that you appreciate yourself and don’t let someone else take you for granted, or treat you as second best. Put on your best dress, do your hair and make-up, and hold your head up high while blaring this one out.

1. Taylor Swift – We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together

Is this the ultimate anti-Valentine’s Day song? It quite possibly could be. Taylor Swift is known to write about her romances and whoever this one was about we feel a little bit sorry for them. Remember that hope your ex had about getting back together? Well forget it! Crush their hopes with this no-nonsense pop anthem from T-Swift.

What songs will you be blaring out today? If there’s any of your favourites we’ve missed off the list then let us know in the comments.
