Introducing Norma Jean Martine

New EP will be released on 20th November.

David Standish

Norma Jean Martine has lived in New York and Nashville before ending up in London at the tender age of 20. The young singer felt encouraged by the voices of Amy Winehouse and Adele when she chose to come to London to craft her music. It wasn’t long before she met her manager and had sessions with Romeo Stodart of The Magic Numbers, Joel Pott from Athlete, Ed Harcourt and songwriter Burt Bacharach.

Fast forward some time and now Norma Jean Martine has released her first single Animals and an EP of the same name will be out on 20th November through Virgin EMI Records.

About the track she said:  Animals is really a hedonistic, romantic, sexual pop song. I wrote it after attending Glastonbury two years ago and seeing The Rolling Stones for the first time. The song is heavily influenced by them, all the while keeping a musical tinge of modern day. I’m quite a musical chameleon and my references are pretty widely varied, so there were definitely times where I was channeling my inner Ryan Tedder for melody along with the Jagger attitude. Sonically, I wanted it to be as “Stones” as I could get in a modern day pop song, so that is why there are pretty trippy backing vocals, strong guitar riffs, peaky vocal sounds, and jungle drums.’

Norma Jean Martine will be playing a gig at Frukt at The Social on 6th October.
