Nneka interview

EF met young singer-songwriter, Nneka in East London a few hours before the artist was meant to take the stage at Village Underground.

Nigerian born Nneka is no stranger to success with her single Heartbeat entering the UK top-twenty in 2008 and Rita Ora sampling the track on single R.I.P. She also won the MOBO award for Best African Act back in 2009 and this year the young singer songwriter is releasing her new album My Fairy Tales, which was mixed by James ‘Bonzai’ Caruso (Method Man, Mary J Blige and Damian Marley).

Nneka appears unsurprisingly humble but also wise and strong. We are instantly drawn to the artist, who explains how freeing touring feels and how she just shuts out from the rest of the world whilst on the road. After sharing vegetarian restaurant tips we chat about Nneka’s latest album.

Nneka’s album My Fairy Tales is out now.
