C2C: Country To Country arrives in London for a third year this weekend and it promises to be the biggest and best year yet.
Following our spotlights on the main stage artists, we’re highlighting the artists playing on the new Satellite Stage this week. Yesterday we took a look at rising star Sam Hunt and today it’s all about homegrown country duo The Shires.
The Shires – aka Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes – formed after Ben appealed for a female country singer to work with him via Facebook. Crissie responded to Ben’s message and after meeting they discovered they had chemistry and The Shires came to be.
Over the past few months, the buzz has been building for The Shires with BBC Radio 2 being one of the band’s biggest supporters. They are the first UK signing to the revived Decca Nashville label and are creating waves on both sides of the Atlantic.
In 2014 the duo released The Green Note EP featuring live versions of a handful of their tracks. Their singles Nashville Grey Skies, Tonight and Friday Night have received considerable airplay helping them break through into the mainstream.
Earlier this year The Shires supported country quartet Little Big Town on their UK tour. Following their appearance at C2C this weekend, The Shires will embark on their own headline tour in April taking in 12 dates across the UK.
This week The Shires released their debut album Brave to strong reviews from the critics.
