Pretty Little Liars season 5 A Dark Ali recap

Alison (Sasha Pieterse) was given the chance to do the right thing this week but as per usual she kept everyone hanging until she made her move.

If you havenā€™t seen the latest episode of Pretty Little Liars and donā€™t want any spoilers we suggest you stop reading now. If you have seen it and want to relive the action then keep reading.

At the end of last weekā€™s Pretty Little Liars Alison was brought face-to-face with her ā€˜kidnapperā€™ by Lieutenant Tanner (Roma Maffia). Cyrus Petrillo (Jake Weary) turned himself into the police and admitted to kidnapping Ali perfectly corroborating her story. Much of the episode saw Ali trying to decide whether or not to go along with Aā€™s latest attempt to trap her or whether to do the right thing and say that he didnā€™t kidnap her.

Her indecision led to a lot of stress amongst the other girls as they all feared Ali was about to throw them under a bus. Spencer (Troian Bellisario) was the first to speak out echoing Hannaā€™s (Ashley Benson) recent complaints that Ali is using them and dragging them down. Aria (Lucy Hale) was sitting on the fence about what to do worried that going against Ali would lead to the reveal that she had accidentally killed Shana (Aeriel Miranda). Emily (Shay Mitchell) refused to turn against her friend and was nominated as the one who would most likely talk some sense into her.

Spencer still had hold of Noelā€™s (Brant Daugherty) evidence that proves Ali was never kidnapped and decided to hide it in her special hiding place in her room. In the midst of doing that Spencer realised someone had discovered her hiding place and stolen the recording of Ali recounting her ā€˜ordealā€™ that each of the girls was told to rehearse. With Melissa (Torrey DeVitto) hanging around this week it was safe to assume that she probably had something to do with it. This was further supported when Spencer caught Melissa talking to someone who looked suspiciously like Cyrus the previous day.

Once again Spencer begged Melissa to tell her the truth about what was going on but hit a brick wall with Melissa telling her that it wasnā€™t safe for either of them. What could that mean? The last we saw of Melissa she seemed to be recording a confessional video for Spencer explaining everything. Will she seriously go through with it?

Hanna (Ashley Benson) continued to try and clean up her act forcing herself and Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) on a health kick. She used that excuse to avoid all of the Ali drama this week but was soon pulled back in when she encountered Mona (Janel Parrish) at a singing audition during school. After Mona showed off her impressive vocal skills, the shape-shifting character ā€˜faintedā€™ which lead to Hanna discovering a photo of Cyrus in her bag. Later on Hanna spotted Mona spying on the police station and climbed into her car. Mona was tapping into the phone lines and email of the police trying to catch A and find out what Cyrus was really up to.
The only thing they discovered is that Ali eventually confirmed that Cyrus was her kidnapper after visiting a basement where he had apparently held her captive. Ali had flashbacks of Cyrus and her there and claimed he was the one who cut her thigh and then stole all of her stuff. Before Tanner could get back to the police department Cyrus had been released and disappeared.

Upon hearing the news of Aliā€™s latest movie, Emily waited furiously on her friendā€™s doorstep. When Ali returned Emily made it clear that she was done with her and couldnā€™t take any more lies. Ali assured her that she had a plan that would get them all in the clear but Emily didnā€™t want to hear it.

Seems like Emily was right as it was revealed that it was Ali who had put Cyrus up to confessing to her kidnapping. Could this be Aliā€™s most outrageous lie/plan yet? It appears she has something over Cyrus and warned him that sheā€™d found him once and could do it again if she wanted to.

Someone else displeased with Ali this week was Ezra (Ian Harding) who after being expressly forbidden to speak to Ali by Aria, did so any way. To be fair to him he did happen upon her at The Brew but their conversation was cut short by Aliā€™s over-protective father.

Elsewhere in the episode Aria tried to help Ella (Holly Marie Combs) get over the breakdown of her relationship with Zack (Steve Talley), which in turn led to an honest conversation between the two about Ezra. Aria admitted the two were talking once again but told her mother that she simply couldnā€™t trust him no matter how much she wanted to.

The episode drew to a close with A arranging a pile of clothes, including a candy striper outfit.

Pretty Little Liars continues Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC Family in the US.
