The latest episode of Pretty Little Liars continued to pull the girls away from one another as they adjust to life with Alison back in it. The former (still?) mean girl spent the episode at home as she prepared to return to Rosewood High and tried to convince her dad not to move her to a new town. She reached out to her friends only to find none of them were all that willing to be at her beck and call.
Following her kidnapping story, Ali finally had to go and get a medical exam to investigate the injuries she claimed were a result of her ‘kidnapping’. Hanna (Ashley Benson) went with her and was shocked to discover that Ali had a genuine scar on her leg. Of course when questioned about it Ali lied and she refused to tell Hanna the truth too. After the examination, Ali gave Hanna a dictaphone that she had recorded the exam and questioning on and instructed her to pass it to the other girls to memorise so they all got their facts straight. Poor Ali also prepared herself for going back to school by looking at the hateful comments about herself online.
Spencer (Troian Bellisario) enlisted the help of Andrew (Brandon W. Jones) to help her sort out the back yard after the police finished investigating it as a crime scene. She appealed to her mother Veronica (Lesley Fera) to be honest with her and the two shared their worries that Peter (Nolan North) may have played a part in Jessica DiLaurentis’ (Andrea Parker) death. This idea was further supported when Spencer learned from Ali that Jessica had a drug in her system that made her heart stop and Spencer subsequently found said drug in the family medicine cabinet. Later in the episode Peter told Spencer that Veronica had gone to a spa after losing her cool with the police and told her not to contact her.
Aria (Lucy Hale) continued to struggle with her guilt over Shana’s (Aeriel Miranda) death and found footage from her funeral online which she began to obsess over. After turning to Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Spencer for help, Aria went to see Ezra (Ian Harding) who managed to calm her down and distract her. Slipping back into old ways, Aria asked Ezra if she could spend the night on his couch but soon realised that wouldn’t be such a great idea and returned home instead.
Emily distracted herself from Ali’s return by helping Sydney (Chloe Bridges) train in the pool. She tried to build bridges with Paige (Lindsey Shaw) too following last week’s frosty exchanges. Just as things were starting to look a bit more promising between the two, Paige turned up on Emily’s doorstep warning her that people were preparing for Ali’s return to school and that it was going to cause problems for everyone. Emily subsequently went over to Ali’s house and suggested that moving away may be a good thing. An upset Ali took that to mean Emily didn’t want her there and told her that they need to stick together. Emily agreed to memorise Ali’s recording and told her it was the last time she would lie for her.
Hanna started to slip back to her old ways. Bearing most of the burden of Ali being back Hanna (and her new hair-do) took herself shopping and tried on a few outfits. Reverting back to her season one ways, Hanna ripped a tag off a top she tried on, put her clothes on over it and walked out without paying. Shop-lifting Hanna is back!
Elsewhere in the episode Mona (Janel Parrish) worked on her plans to make Ali regret coming back from the dead. Her closest ally Lucas (Brendan Robinson) started to get cold feet about everything until Mona told him that Ali’s kidnapping story was a lie. She then confronted Paige telling her that if she choose not to side with her and her army she would automatically be classed as against them. We have a feeling things are going to get a lot more evil from Mona.
Pretty Little Liars continues Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC Family in the US.
