M.A.D interview

M.A.D aka Michael, Ab and Dan are preparing to release new single Fame & TV on 16th February.

The track is the follow-up to the band’s Top 40 hit Toy Boy, which achieved chart glory through social media with no promotion or radio support. M.A.D will be hitting the road in February for a tour taking Jamie’s World and Vanquish with them.

We caught up with the guys to find out more about them, talk about their new single, and discuss their success so far.

Hi guys. How are you today?

Weā€™re feeling amazing right now. Weā€™ve been so busy over the last few days and weā€™re trying to catch up on our sleep. TRYING. But in all seriousness we couldnā€™t ask for more, itā€™s been so much fun and really exciting.

Whatā€™s the story of you guys getting together? Tell us M.A.D. came to be.

Itā€™s pretty simple to be honest. Our manager, George, scouted us through Facebook and saw our Facebook videos, flew us over to London for an audition and it created M.A.D. It could have gone so wrong as we were all so different and had such different voices. Our first recording was the worst thing I have ever heard. George honestly held his head in his hands and thought he had wasted his time and money..luckily we did improve. Slightly.

Youā€™re releasing your new single Fame & TV in February. What can your fans expect from the track?

Fame and T.V is a track we feel so connected to as it relates to the industry that we are actually in. So we feel our fans will love our gimmicky take on the industry. Fans can expect a loud singalong track with a lot of meaning to it, and a very ā€œInvolving videoā€ šŸ˜‰

Youā€™ve already scored a Top 40 hit without any promotion or radio play. Whatā€™s your secret?

George will tell you for one million pound, negotiable. But seriously, we donā€™t know. George, our manager, is the mastermind behind the whole project. Youā€™ll have to ask him.

In February youā€™re going to be hitting the road. Whatā€™s the M.A.D live experience like and why should people come to see you?

The M.A.D experience is very much what it says on the tinā€¦ MAD! Anyone who comes fan or not will enjoy a massive array of songs with the M.A.D take on it making it an explosive (literally) performance.

Presumably youā€™re working on an album at the moment. What can your fans expect from it?

Itā€™s crazy to be honest. Each track is actually different. We have a pop track, cheesy pop, pop/rock, ballad, acoustics, dance and in one song we even have a dubstep section. To be honest anything we love, at the time of writing, will influence our album. We just want to show everyone that we have a wide taste and hopefully everyone will love it.

7. Give us an insight into the dynamic of the band. How do the three of you work together?

We find that we work very well together as we have the same goals and dreams. As a unit our personalities mix so well together. We have such a great laugh, especially at Mr Softy (aka Ab Pryer)

The music industry is constantly changing. Do you think that harnessing tools such as social media is critical to breaking a new band?

Yes, in todays society we find that social media is very important as we are able to generate a large amount of attention and awareness with a simple post. Videos share, photos share, statuses share and it keeps us in the public eye.

What artists really inspire you and your music?

As individuals we have a mixture of tastes. Michael loves Jason Derulo and artists of the RnB genre, Dan loves Ed Sheeran & Ab loves bands like The 1975.

What plans do you have for the rest of 2014?

We are finishing off our album this month, which will be out this summer, alongside as many live shows as we can possibly fit in. Weā€™re hoping to do around 100 shows this year. So thatā€™s a main focus of ours.

M.A.D’s new single Fame & TV will be released on 16th February 2014. Watch an acoustic performance of the track below:
