The initial take on the name on the front of the blank CD (yes, a CD – rather than a download!), is a little confusing. Is this a song about a lady who plays the field – sung by a new artist called Tina?! Erm, no .. Tina Weymouth is not just an ode to the Talking Heads bass player, either, it is also a cautionary tale. Tina Weymouth is the third single to be taken from the critically lauded eponymous debut album by This Many Boyfriends.
The track is the kind of song that sounds quite familiar the second you hit play, as if you may have heard something like it before, which is a good thing. The track is a typical sounding indie number – particularly the vocals and the shouty/clap-along chorus. The overall sound is very British.
Whilst listening to the track, our immediate thoughts were that if you like bands such as the Kaiser Chiefs and the Arctic Monkeys, you’ll also enjoy this band. Which is particularly apt, since we took a quick look at the the press release and saw that they will be supporting the Kaiser Chiefs on their forthcoming tour, which kicks off at Camden’s Barfly on January 26th!
They have had a wealth of praise heaped upon them from the music press and their recent UK-tour saw them playing to packed out venues across the UK, which is nicely polishing up their reputation of being a band who are good live.
We think that the song is a lovely introduction to this band (who are still introducing themselves to the music public) and we are looking forward to seeing what they will offer us as the year progresses. It’s always good to have some new, fresh and talented guitar-bands emerging on the scene – this is something that we need a lot more of. A catchy chorus and a lot of guitars. Welcome, lads!
