Rising star Vincent Mason talks ‘Livin Proof’ & ‘Hell is a Dance Floor’

In the expansive sea of country music, certain artists stand out as beacons of talent, authenticity, and storytelling prowess. Among these stars shines Vincent Mason, a rising artists whose songs of heartache and love lost resonate deeply with his ever growing audience.

Think what would happen if Morgan Wallen and Kacey Musgraves got together to write a song with Megan Moroney! Moroney might have cornered the market in ’emo cowgirl’ but could Vincent Mason stake a claim for the rights to ’emo cowboy?’

Hailing originally from Roswell, Georgia, but now firmly rooted in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee, Vincent Mason’s journey to musical prominence is a testament to perseverance, innate talent, and an unyielding passion for his craft. Despite initially envisioning a future in sports like football or basketball, Mason’s path took a serendipitous turn when he picked up a guitar for the first time during his senior year of high school. Surrounded by the evocative melodies and soul-stirring landscapes of the South, Mason’s love affair with country music blossomed.

During his time at Ole Miss, Mason’s passion for songwriting flourished, fueled by the influences of contemporary artists such as Thomas Rhett, Parker McCollum, and John Mayer. However, his collegiate journey was abruptly interrupted by the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, prompting a return to his roots with a cache of original songs in hand.

In a fortuitous twist of fate, Mason’s parents encouraged him to pursue his songwriting aspirations further at Lipscomb University in Nashville. This pivotal decision marked a turning point in Mason’s career trajectory, laying the groundwork for where he is right now, poised to take that next step as his star continues to ascend. With the release of his latest single, ‘Livin Proof’ and the video to ‘Hell is a Dance Floor,’ which comes out today (April 24th) Mason has garnered widespread acclaim and cultivated a dedicated following that will surely help take him to the next level of success and recognition.

We asked Mason about his new single ‘Livin Proof’ and the making of the ‘Hell is a Dance Floor’ video:

Tell me about the writing process for ‘Livin’ Proof’

“I wrote the chorus by myself in my living room about two years ago. I stumbled onto ‘Livin’ Proof’ by wanting to play on the proof of liquor and also telling the story of a heartbreak that’s so bad you don’t feel like yourself anymore. I took everything I had been working on into a write with Brett Truitt, Forrest Finn and Joe Whelan where they helped me finish it up. It’s crazy how long the process can be from the start of a song to when it’s actually released but I’m really proud of this one.”

How has it felt to see Hell Is A Dance Floor take off the way it has?

“It’s been crazy. Seeing the response from fans has been unreal. This song definitely has the best response from fans at shows. As an artist, we want people to connect and as soon as the band begins the intro for ‘Hell is a Dance Floor’, you see people immediately pull their phones out to start recording it and that’s the best feeling.”

What was it like making the music video?

“I always grew up watching music videos so it was really cool to finally have the opportunity to make my own video. The entire song was based on a memory in a past relationship. That feeling set the tone for the song but I’m really excited to finally have my first music video out in the world.”
