We sat down with the Godfather of survival horror, Shinji Mikami, to see how he generates fear in his new\u00a0game The Evil Within. He told us:<\/p>\n

[quote]Creating a sense of \u2018relief\u2019 is key in creating fear; after a long tense situation there is a moment where the player feels slightly relaxed or off-guard. Sometimes we intentionally delay the timing of the scare from when people are expecting it to happen.[\/quote]<\/p>\n

In the game, Shinji Mikami uses his own and other people\u2019s real-life experiences with fear to create a more genuine scare factor.<\/p>\n
