Lee Ann Womack returns to the UK stage today as part of the line-up for C2C: Country To Country.
Since her breakthrough hit I Hope You Dance in 2010, the UK hasnāt seen a whole lot of Lee Ann but that could be about to change. Before her set later today, Lee Ann spoke with press from around the world about being part of the C2C.
Speaking about her long absence from the UK Lee Ann said, āI canāt believe I donāt get here more often. I want to. This audience is the perfect audience for me.ā
When asked about I Hope You Dance, the song that has become her signature hit, Lee Ann explained, āI thought the song was a pretty good song. I thought about my two daughters and all the things I want for them in life. I was kind of emotional after pregnancy. I didnāt have any idea how it would catch on. The great part of it is that I get to be a part of peopleās lives.ā
Lee Annās inclusion in the C2C line-up puts her amongst a lot of contemporary stars offering a nice contrast with the more traditional sound sheās known for. āIām very glad to be here among these guys. Itās a different deal. In a way I donāt fit in but in another way I do. Even though our music is very different weāre not afraid to be who we are.ā
The singerās latest album The Way Iām Livinā, released in 2014, received widespread critical acclaim and is a bit of a departure thanks to the freedom of releasing away from a major label for the first time. āI had been on a major label and done the whole Nashville/commercial thing for 15 yearsā¦I wanted to make real country records. Making this record and playing this kind of music is something Iāve wanted to do for a long time.ā
For her last question Lee Ann was asked what advice she would give to a new artist trying to break through in Country music. āOne problem I have with a lot of younger people trying to get into the music business is that our whole culture has become obsessed with fame. You can be famous doing a lot of things ā donāt clog up the music business.ā
Lee Ann Womack will perform on the Main Stage at C2C: Country To Country later today.
