Launched in early 2024 by actress Vicky McClure, filmmaker and broadcaster Jonny Owen, and Reverend & The Makers frontman Jon McClure alongside his brother Chris McClure and Sheffield businessman James O’Hara, DAY FEVER has quickly grown into one of the UK’s most joyful cultural success stories. What began as a simple idea has become a nationwide movement, drawing thousands of people onto dancefloors every month with a simple promise: all the fun of a big night out, finished by 8pm.
“It started as a WhatsApp idea,” Jon McClure explains. “Jonny just said, ‘A daytime disco, how good would that be?’ We’re all a bit nuts, so we just said, ‘Come on then!’” From its debut at Sheffield City Hall Ballroom, DAY FEVER has expanded rapidly, tapping into a collective craving for carefree fun without the late nights. Running from 3pm to 8pm, the events offer wall-to-wall feel-good music, no dress code, no pressure, and a hangover that’s very much optional.
The atmosphere has become central to DAY FEVER’s appeal. “It feels like a massive house party at your nan’s,” laughs Vicky McClure. “No drama, no egos, just people acting daft, getting dressed up, and having the best time.” Each city brings its own personality, with local DJs spinning nostalgic mixes of Northern Soul, disco, indie and 90s classics. “Manchester goes mad for Oasis,” says Jon, “and if Vicky’s there, we have to play Whitney, it’s non-negotiable!”
Beyond the dancefloor, DAY FEVER has also become a boost for local venues and communities. By wrapping up early, events allow clubs to double their takings and still run a full night afterwards. More importantly, the daytime discos have created a welcoming space for people from all walks of life. “We’ve had people in remission, people grieving, people celebrating life,” Jon says. “It’s mothers and daughters, old mates, and whole families dancing together. That’s powerful.”
With tickets selling out in hours and demand growing across the country, 2026 is shaping up to be DAY FEVER’s biggest and most joyful year yet. As Jon McClure puts it, “It’s like a wedding party where everyone actually wants to be there, and that’s magic.”
