Iron Maiden celebrated with 50th anniversary coin from The Royal Mint

The Royal Mint has unveiled a striking commemorative coin marking 50 years of Iron Maiden, the legendary heavy metal band from East London. Joining the ranks of musical greats like Queen, Elton John, and David Bowie in The Royal Mint's Music Legends series, Iron Maiden are being honored for their decades of global influence and dedicated fanbase.

Designed by contemporary Iron Maiden artist Albert ‘Akirant' Quirantes, the coin features the band's iconic mascot Eddie in a dynamic pose filled with hidden references to the band’s storied career. These “Easter eggs” nod to albums, tours, and milestones, offering collectors a detailed and nostalgic tribute. The band collaborated closely with The Royal Mint to ensure the final product reflected the essence of their legacy, making it the first official collectible to feature their 50th anniversary logo.

Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood called the release a continuation of Eddie’s journey, adding that the coin joins a long list of appearances including stamps, beer bottles, and even aircraft. Akirant, a longtime fan of the band, said the project was one of the most thrilling of his career, packed with references that dedicated fans will enjoy discovering.

Rebecca Morgan, Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint, described the band as fearless pioneers and said the coin was a perfect fusion of “metal on metal,” likely to appeal to both collectors and Iron Maiden fans. The coins are available in multiple editions, ranging from standard uncirculated versions to limited-edition precious metal proofs, with prices starting at £18.50.
