Country music star Ashley McBryde received an Honorary Doctorate of Music from Arkansas State University during the Spring 2025 Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 10. Chancellor Todd Shields commended McBryde's “determination and contributions to American Music,” highlighting her as an inspiration for future generations of Arkansas State alumni.​

In her acceptance speech, McBryde reflected on her time at Arkansas State, where she discovered her passion for both performing and nurturing other musicians. She expressed gratitude to educators such as Greg and Hope Bruner, Robin Dauer, Ed Alexander, Dr. Ken Carroll, and Dr. Tom O'Connor for their guidance. McBryde emphasised her commitment to music education and her collaboration with music educators throughout her career.​

Acknowledging the significance of the honor, McBryde noted the dedication required to earn the title of ‘Doctor,' paralleling it with her own journey in the music industry. She recounted her evolution from a “broke, guitar-playing, songwriting chick” to a GRAMMY-winning artist and Grand Ole Opry member. McBryde concluded by expressing anticipation for being introduced as Dr. Ashley McBryde at her upcoming performance at Opry 100 Honors: Loretta Lynn on Tuesday, May 13.​
