Step back into the glamour and grit of the Swinging Sixties as ‘Darling', the Oscar-winning 1965 classic that defined a generation, returns to UK cinemas from 30th May, with a stunning 4K UHD and Blu-ray release set for 16th June. Courtesy of STUDIOCANAL’s Vintage Classics Collection, this newly restored edition of ‘Darling' celebrates the film’s 60th anniversary in all its bold, stylish, and satirical glory.
Directed by John Schlesinger (‘Midnight Cowboy', ‘Far from the Madding Crowd') and written by Frederic Raphael (‘Eyes Wide Shut'), ‘Darling' follows Diana Scott, a free-spirited model played by Julie Christie in the role that won her an Academy Award and a BAFTA. Set against the backdrop of London's fashion and media scene, Diana navigates fame, fortune, and fractured relationships in her relentless pursuit of success.
Joining Christie are British screen icons Dirk Bogarde (‘Death in Venice') and Laurence Harvey (‘Room at the Top'), who portray the influential men caught in Diana’s orbit — a TV journalist, an ad exec, and a jet-set lifestyle that ultimately consumes her. The result is a sharply observed tale of ambition, moral compromise, and the seductive dangers of celebrity.

A landmark of British cinema, Darling was an instant hit upon release, earning three Oscars, including Best Actress and Best Original Screenplay, as well as four BAFTAs. With its lush jazz score by John Dankworth and dazzling costume design by Oscar-winner Julie Harris, the film remains a cultural touchstone for its cutting-edge commentary and visual flair.
For its 60th anniversary, Darling has been painstakingly restored in 4K HDR (Dolby Vision) by Filmfinity UK, who scanned the best available 35mm film elements and dedicated over 350 hours to digital restoration. The result is a pristine viewing experience that breathes new life into this iconic satire of 1960s society.
The home entertainment release on 16th June includes:
- A 4K UHD and Blu-ray combo pack
- Brand new special features
- A 64-page collector’s booklet with exclusive essays and rare archival material
Whether you're revisiting this swinging classic or discovering it for the first time, ‘Darling' is set to captivate audiences once again with its wit, allure, and cautionary tale of fame’s high cost.
Catch it in cinemas from 30th May or pre-order the 4K edition now from Amazon — this is one re-release worth falling in love with all over again.
