Review: LOCASH mix sunshine with soul on new album ‘Bet the Farm’

Formed in 2008, LOCASH is an American country music duo hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, comprising vocalists and songwriters Preston Brust and Chris Lucas. Initially performing under the moniker LoCash Cowboys, they released their self-titled debut album in 2013, featuring singles like ‘Chase a Little Love' and ‘Best Seat in the House.' Their breakthrough came with the 2015 single ‘I Love This Life,' followed by the chart-topping ‘I Know Somebody' in 2016. Beyond their own performances, Brust and Lucas have penned hits for other artists, including Keith Urban’s ‘You Gonna Fly' and Tim McGraw’s ‘Truck Yeah.'

In April 2024, LOCASH launched their own record label, Galaxy Label Group, in partnership with BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville. Under this new venture, they released the single ‘Hometown Home,' which has resonated with fans and is currently sitting at number one on the country radio charts.  This success sets the stage for their forthcoming album, ‘Bet the Farm,’ scheduled for release on April 18, 2025.  With a history of nominations from major awards shows and a reputation for high-energy performances, LOCASH continues to both reflect and drive the genre forward with skill and verve.

‘Bet the Farm' is a confident, infectious blend of heartfelt storytelling and party-starting swagger, showing off the duo’s trademark mix of feel-good energy and grounded country values. At the heart of the album sits the chart-topping anthem ‘Hometown Home,' a classic country ode to finding love and a sense of belonging. With its big, inclusive chorus and warm evocations of grandmas, spray-painted bridges, and roots that run deep, it captures everything the duo do best: celebrate the places and people that make life worth living. “If you want to stay I was thinking we could make this hometown home,” they sing—an instant singalong and a reminder that home isn’t just a place, it’s who you’re with.

The same sense of long-term loyalty and love runs through some of the album’s most poignant tracks. ‘When I’m Older' is a tender, acoustic ballad pledging to keep the spark alive long past the early days of romance—“I wanna love like 21, like a couple of kids on the run.” It’s a gentle, heartfelt standout that will strike a chord with couples building a life together. ‘Bet the Farm,' the title track, leans into a similar theme with a bit more edge, thanks to its moody, bass-heavy Wallen-esque production and lyrics about betting everything on love. “I’m gonna love ya till the cows come home,” they declare, making the metaphor feel both romantic and grounded. Meanwhile, ‘Wrong Hearts' traces the winding road of misses and wrong turns that leads to true love, blending slick pop-country polish with a nostalgic 50s/60s pop vibe that gives the song its infectious charm.

Indeed, there’s a strong thread of nostalgia and reflection woven throughout the album. ‘Bring ‘Em Back' is a prime example—a polished, radio-ready anthem that longs for simpler times, old songs, and wild nights with good friends. It’s the kind of track that could easily follow ‘Hometown Home' to the top of the charts. '44 Strong' takes a more reverent approach, offering a stripped-back tribute to farmers and working families. Driven by sparse percussion and a heartfelt children’s choir, it honours 44 farms in Cameron, Texas and the blessings of rain, sun and hard work needed for all farmers to succeed with real sincerity and depth.

But ‘Bet the Farm' isn’t all about deep feelings—it knows how to throw a party too. ‘Buzzin' is a funky, uptempo celebration of letting loose in the country, with rock ‘n’ roll licks and a chorus built to explode live. ‘Still Got It' taps into that same energy with a message tailor-made for LOCASH’s older fans: you might be getting older, but the party doesn’t have to stop. “We got that wild ride, crazy side still hanging around,” they declare, urging everyone to embrace the moment. It’s a fun, feel-good anthem with real staying power. ‘Right Life,' meanwhile, offers a more laid-back version of the same vibe—a lake or beachside groove about floating, drinking, and soaking up the sun. “We ain’t catching no fish but we’re catching the feels,” they joke, and you believe them on this summertime classic reminiscent of a band like Little Big Town at their most day-time boozy!

Elsewhere, the duo try something a little different with ‘Isn’t She Country,' a clever country twist on Stevie Wonder’s ‘Isn’t She Lovely.' They keep the iconic melody but shift the lyrics to honour a down-home country girl. It’s a bold move that works surprisingly well, especially paired with the retro-pop feel of ‘Wrong Hearts' in the sequencing of the running order. Then there’s ‘Be That Guy,' a sleek, romantic pop-country number with finger snaps and a smooth groove. “You’re the kinda girl make a good ole boy hang his Stetson,” they sing—sounding every bit as polished as Old Dominion or Parmalee and just as ready for mainstream radio.

In the end, ‘Bet the Farm' is a slick, well-crafted collection from a duo who know exactly who they are and what their fans want. LOCASH blend heart and fun in equal measure, grounding the album in themes of long-term love, loyalty and life’s small-town joys, while sprinkling in just enough party and play to keep things feeling fresh. They’re not breaking new ground here—but that’s not the point. This is seasoned, confident Pop Country with just the right amount of polish and plenty of soul, proving that LOCASH still have their finger firmly on the pulse of country music.
